Laser Printer suggestions needed :)

Hey all,

I'm looking for a colour laser in the sub £200 range. If it's slightly over but worth it I might consider it. If it's closer to £300 it's most likely a no though

I don't need any fancy features, but WiFi would be a godsend as the space under my desk is starting to get cramped. Could always get a print server but that's even more money to spend

Thanks!

Hello,

I don't know if these are available over on your side of the pond, but I've had good luck with Brother MFCs...

This one is 200, basic printing, B&W scanning and copying, and a small foot print, for $199 (should be about 120-150 British Pounds, which leaves some money to buy your first replacement toner and drum): http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16828113660

This one is a bit more expensive, at $279 (170-190 British Pounds), but adds color scanning, and wifi connectivity (which is more useful for a printer then you think): http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16828113651

I have the predecessor to the second link I listed, and we've been very happy with it in my home. Good luck getting a new printer!

Thanks for the nippy reply

I wish the prices worked that way, unfortunately due to our beautiful tax system those printers cost ~£200 and ~£250 respectively.

Both suggestions have been noted, thanks

I would ideally like to get a colour one though, how unrealistic am I being?

Give me a computer and I could gut it and make something else out of it. Give me a printer and I'd spend half an hour finding the paper tray

Don't mean to thread hijack, maybe this could help both of us out...

Yo! Looking for advice on finding a printer with the best cost per page. I know how the game works... Companies sell the printers at a loss (or playstation 3s) and make their money on the ink (or games). I'm pretty tired of having to constantly refill my Epson all in one. It's one of those printers with separate ink cartridges. It has black, cyan, yellow, magenta...

It won't print black text even if the black cartridge is full, but the yellow is empty. I'm going to put this printer under my car and run it over...........

I was thinking about getting a laser printer as I heard they are better on ink costs. Can anyone recommend a printer? Thanks!

Budget max $200. Prefer to keep below.

why are you considering a laser printer instead of an ink jet printer?? Not to be rude but do you know the difference?? The reason why i ask this question because you can get better printers that are ink jet for the price of a laser, depending on what you are printing. I perfer and have had good experience with Epson printers and bought an ink jet one that is about 17" wide for 199 and the ink cartridges were not over kill compared to a laser.

1). thread jacking is not cool
2). read above as i noted to OP
3). Im pretty sure if you read the manual, update the drivers, or use the included software you can fix the color problem. This can easily be done through Adobe so you are not printing full CMYK. SOME newer printers allow this feature if you are just doing solid black prints and aposed to true black compared to process black.

EDIT:
also if you are considering printers i know you can go to newegg and you can compare printers and they will tell you pretty much the amount of sheets printers over ink toner.

Hey man,

I want to go laser because the inkjets I've had are all crap and I much prefer the quality of laser. If I have to pay a few bob extra so be it. Also I'll be printing a fair amount; a few journals a week, assignments and dissertation drafts. So I'd like to be cost effective and efficient. Also my house needs a decent printer so after I finish uni I'll leave it there. It'll get even more use at home.

I may have exaggerated when I said I don't know where the paper tray is, I know the differences between laser and inkjet don't worry

Thanks for the heads up though

How is this going to help me? Thread jacking really is as uncool as it implies...

how wouldn't this help you? we are both looking for laser printers. someone useful will chime in eventually.

its clear that graphicsman is just trolling

@OP

If only you needed a B&W laser printer I could have one shipped from a warehouse (refurbished HP usually) for $50+shipping! (of course shipping would be a bit expensive eh?)

I've not seen a decent laser printer with color for under $200 US dollars, I think you may have to try and find something in the 250 range on your end.

Thank you for the offer, but I do need the colour Not only does it look better, but colour coding for data representation is quite common in scientific papers and I don't want to have to use the Uni printers just because I don't have it at home

Hmmm ok, if I were to increase it to £300 what could I get?

I've seen a few around at the £200 mark, slightly over by like £30 but they look ok, yet to check out their toner prices though.

What's cheap/good for toner prices?
