2600k build thoughts

Hey guys so my sig rig is dead I'm not sure what's wrong with it but I'm going crazy with no pc so winkle waiting for an ram I'm going to just get a 2600k build and play with that all I'm going to buy is a motherboard CPU and power supply. Here is what I have come up with let me know what you think, and thoughts on what would be better, ect. +rep for the help.

Pretty much set on the i7 2600k

Thinking of going with a
SeaSonic X Series X-850although a CORSAIR HX Series CMPSU-1000HX would also be nice for future sli

Torn between the gigabyte GA-Z68X-UD7-B3 or the ASUS Maximus IV Extreme-Z, thoughts would be appreciated, I want to go with a top end motherboard because the mobo in my sig rig I always regretted not getting a better one, I may do sli down the road so the ud7 would be nice but I think 8x wouldn't be too much of an issue. I like the Asus because of the look and the Bluetooth, and the uefi but the ud7 has a great set of software and I hear great things about their motherboards.

Any thoughts? Mostly concerned with mobo choices what I want is decent on board sound, and great over clocking potential, going to reuse my water loop so I have enough cooling for high clocks I would think, I also want dual bios for a stable 24/7 clock without having to mess with it to get it back when I'm done playing around. I'm looking at the z68 because I want to see what all this ssd caching is all about I found it somewhat annoying to have the small boot drive ssd since if I didn't pay attention I would download something to the ssd and then have to erase it. I haven't seen the full 6gb/s out of my c300 yet since my SLI le is an older model. Also will the Asus fit on my bench? It's only really made for atx but I figure xl atx will just hang out a bit or something right? I can just run it on a box and get a new bench if need be but I like the look of it ATM. Any thoughts would be appreciated.
Thanks guys

If you want Z68. I'd go Asus P8Z68-V PRO smile.gif
Also, 850W should be enough for any Sli solution!

I do hear what you're saying, about getting the best mobo! But SB doesn't need the "Best mobo"! And your overclock will be CPU dependent, rather than limited by the mobo!

But, what ever you decide. I really do recommend, you go ASUS smile.gif
Over half of all the SB builds here on OCN are ASUS wink.gif

not sure on what mobo model to recommend specifically but without doubt id recommend ASUS over GigaByte w/ p67 & z68.

both psu s are quality products (personaly id go with seasonic ) , i guess the 1000w could run tri/quad sli ?

really? I wrote that on my ipad with tapatalk punctuation is annoying enough on a real kb. Besides you need to "Care" your word choice it makes little sense. Thanks for adding positively to the topic tho wink.gif

Thanks for the opinions everyone, I'm gonna pull the trigger in 48hrs or so. Any one else have thoughts?

As far as the x850 vs hx1000 the 850 wouldn't be enough for another 590, but I doubt I'm gonna get another card till 7990 is out so its not a big deal. I may need to look into a ups though since this is the 2nd power supply in a year that has given me issues. I'll see if it its the pus when I get the parts in though. Anyone have any idea whether or not the motherboard will fit easily on my bench?

thanks again rep going out to most of you

eek.gif My bad! I missed the two GTX590s eek.gif
That will take some power!
And I'm sure I've read of bods on here having problems with powering two, when using like a 1000W PSU! frown.gif

So, I recommend you do a post in the PSU section wink.gif
Because, I'm thinking you're going to need a "big single rail PSU"!

edit
The Antec HCP1200 might do it smile.gif

I only have one atm, but yes I wouldn't feel comfortable even on a 1kw psu if i got a second 590, although I was thinking further down the road a 1kw would allow for more room. I think I'm gonna go with the seasonic, people say great things about them so I figure I should give it a shot. Although I wonder whether even my gs700 was at its limits or if there's something wonky about my apartments wiring and I need to get a ups or something to clean up the power being supplied. Well see i guess if the seasonic goes south then its something to look into. I only had that gs700 for about 2-3months now and it may be shot. Though my sig rig was asking a lot from a 700w psu
post #8 of 12
Yes, definitely do some investigating on the PSU, if you do plan two GTX590!
As someone did post here on OCN saying they were having problems running two. Even though the PSU they had, on paper should have worked!

It was seeming that the PSU had a problem with the loads on the rails!

I did have a look in the Metro 2033 bench thread. Looking at the high scoring rigs, looking at their Sigs to see what PSUs the overkill rigs use biggrin.gif
And that's where I saw the "Antec HCP1200"

So Watts alone are not enough! It's how they manage the power as much as anything smile.gif
Good luck bud wink.gif

Thanks for your well wishing. I'm getting quit enclose to buying a new sig rig, although some questions may haunt me until and after my purchase. I think that one necessary evil is whether or not a p67 or the newer z68 is right for me? Does OCN have any advice on the subject? I'm mos inerested I. Whether with my ssd setup as it is I should be looking at z68 or not?

Might as well go out with the Maximus IV Extreme. I have one and the features are just amazing. Also, unless Gigabyte has updated, the new UEFI BIOS is freaking awesome, which Gigabyte doesn't have as I recall. I promise, you'll love the Maximus IV. As far as power supply, if your going with two 7990's later, why don't you go ahead and buy the AX1200 from corsair, read my signature and see why! wink.gif
