If you use this laptop to game on, the battery lasts ~ 50 minutes. =P
For web browsing, mine lasts up to 4.5 hours.

Also, I find it easy to take places. Mine came with the ROG backpack though.

What good is a laptop that's always plugged into the wall.

Just tell your friend to get a small LAN type case and a small LED screen and voila, better portable gaming machine.

Well, he blew all his money last year on a model similar to this while I spent about a half for my own gaming desktop and a macbook pro. Also, he thought that it would be convenient to have a gaming laptop but he just ended up playing games only when he's back in his room. He just bought an eepad transformer haha.
----
The story here is that the laptop is fine for the price and to game but it might result in a pain in your arse down the road and then you'll have to buy some other type of portable computer (ipad/eepad whatever)

Also, my friend's eepad transformer and his laptop are still inferior to gaming and computer powers than my laptop and my desktop even though he paid more.
This is just something for you to think about because I don't want anyone to end up like my friend =)

Am a hardcore gamer. & since my wife has banned me to the basemnt because she was sick of te huge desk and 3 monitor setup cluttering up her living room i've been gaming for 8hr a day min in the basement. At time it made me feel distanced from her because when i wanted to play crysis 2, or black ops online or even search the web, i had to go to my main rig in the basement. Didnt really care if the laptop was huge because its a desktop replacement altho am not getting rid of my desktop. I have a smart phone to search the web but you know how that can be at times. Am just sick of being away from the family to get to do some editing or gaming on a powerful pc.

I bought the Asus today at bestbuy. Am on it right now redownloading black ops off steam. So far am 100% happy with it. I'll keep you guys updated.

& thanks for you guyes help

The fact that you found it on bestbuy's site is incredible... The next best deal out there was the Qosmio I ended up buying back in november. was discounted for like $350 or something as a promotional deal. They were one of the first setups to aquire the 460m.

I also recently bought the laptop for college so I can use it for notes in class/take it home on the weekends and leave my sigrig in my dorm. Haven't had any complaints so far. Mine only came with a $100 gift card though, no ROG backpack :/

I only have one question... Can you upgrade the graphic card? That is the only tangble question for a gamer. Used to be a hardcore gamer my self and you need an upgradable graphics card in any laptop. Trust me on this
post #18 of 29
Upgrading the graphics card option may seem nice, but by the time something new comes out, the new card will probably be bottlenecked by the CPU. Also, I could build a new rig for the price of a mobile gfx card.

I think this is a great mobile platform at this price.

Although I am an Asus enthusiast, I will would still reccomend this laptop http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16834152266

Its a little over your price range but it has a full 192-bit bus, same cpu, better screen, more ram and a RAID 0 array from the factory. Worst case you could probably find this model refurb'd for within your price range.
