Water cooling advantages? - Page 2

Advantages:
-Better cooling performance (obviously)
-Silence
-Higher overclocks
-Water cooling in itself is another thing to experiment with. It's like another PC build inside your current PC.

But it's ridiculously expensive, unless you buy wisely.

Personally I wouldn't get water cooling unless you need it.

Watercooling is like pringles, once you pop; you can't stop.

If you go the custom way, it just feels great when you've got your finished product. Then 3 weeks later, you're lurking OCN, see a picture and WHA-BAM; you need to rip it apart and add something new. Expensive yes, but ohh so rewarding. And so much flexability, performance, and fun.

I'll honestly say I never saw someone add extra heat pipes to a NH-d14, or change the fin types from alu to copper. Nor have I every seen an external air heatsink. I've never seen an air heat sink addon box to the bottom or top of a case either...

See where I'm going with this?! =P

I liken the pre-built water coolers to pre-built computers. They work...but what's the point? One of the main points of doing your own water loop is like doing your own computer...to mess around, learn, and have fun. I built my first loop the other day. Its functional, but holy hell I used a lot more tubing then I should have, and I could have done a few things differently, bit that's how you learn.

I also want to always mess with it...but that is normal.

Whenever you find yourself on a forum with people who compare water cooling to sex and potato chips, you know you are in trouble.
And if you find yourself going along with their advise, then you are beyond salvation. Might as well throw yourself off a bridge........just send me your GPU block before you do that.

My last build was watercooled. I maintained it for about 7 years. The cooling worked pretty well, and it was a blast to set it up, and solve all the problems watercooling can create. Being older now, I went to air, for lower cost and less work.
Looking at the sealed systems did not tempt me in the least. WCing is for the fun of setting the system up and solving difficult cooling problems like:SLI'd cards and the like.
My current Noctua cooler works great, and is silent. It will never need coolant, or leak. Only an occasional dusting...

My first water cooled cpu was a 955BE. I found (mostly by reading here) that this line of cpu's does not like heat and has a low maximum operating desirable temperature (I seem to think it is 60-62C) any thing that can keep that cpu away from that temp is worth it. I would be very happy if I could stay below 60C when ambient is 80-82F with my i7-930 but I can't. I say with the 955 take every option offered to keep it cool.

i setup my loop last year it started as a 655-b pump rx360 rad and cpu and gpu block now i have added a 5970 water block and a rx240 rad and im thinking now putting all the fans on a fan controler to make my pc silent but still cool great. Thats one of the perks of water cooling it can be almost silent and still be great cooling. I noticed somthing the other day air cooling could never do my room was 85f my video cards were full load and heavly overclocked and they only hit 50c and 45c.
