Planning some upgrades... what do you think?

Thread Starter
I was thinking of upgrading my CPU, Mobo, RAM, GPU, add a 2TB HDD, my DVD burner and the CPU cooler. I've had this in mind:

AMD Phenom II X6 1090T (And switch to a BD CPU when they come out)
ASUS Sabertooth 990FX AM3+ AMD 990FX
Sapphire AMD Radeon HD6950 2GB 100312SR (And unlock it)
2x Supertalent DDR3 8GB PC-12800 KIT 2 WP160UX8G9
Antec Kuhler H2O 620
Western Digital 2TB 7200RPM WD20EARX
2x Lite-On DVD burner 24X SATA IHAS124-48

Then wait for BD to come out and get an 8 core CPU.

What do you all think of these upgrades? I'm also in a budget. These components are inside my range. I'll have the money by November or December, and then I'll upgrade. Is anything good gonna be released by then? The rest of the current components in my rig will stay, including my current hard drives.

EDIT: I changed the cooler for a better one.

I've heard the CM V8's dont cool very well, more hype than performance. you can get a 212+ for cheaper that does the job.

Will that let me push the CPU to 4GHz without problems?

I should also add: these upgrades will be for gaming, some graphic design and programming.

if you want to OC, go with this... only $10 dollars more than the V8. it is the best you are gonna find for air cooled.

If they don't ship to Mexico, forget it.

The problem is, because of my location, I have to buy from this store since international shipping would cost an arm, the prices are in Mexican pesos.

What about the Thermaltake Frio? I've heard good things of it.

I've decided to use an antec Kuhler H2O 620 instead, it should do the job using push/pull.

Anything else to consider about the upgrades? How does it look?

Bulldozer is just around the corner mate, but if you wont upgrade till nov-dec. I dont realy see the point in making a shopping list now. technology changes so fast in the pc world :sigh:
By Nov-Dec. bulldozer will be out and amd is planing to release their 7000-series graphics cards sometime in Q4 this year.

In that case, I'd just replace the CPU for a BD one and the GPU for a HD 7000 series in my shopping list right?

I'd personally just wait to upgrade to BD. You know, you would have to also buy new RAM too (unless you want to use slower RAM). Why waste money on something you would only use for a few months. If anything, just upgrade your video card and get a SSD. Those two upgrades would be more beneficial for gaming, graphic design, and programming than BD would be.

BTW, that sucks to live somewhere where there's only one supplier.

AFAIK after 1600MHz in DDR3 RAM, there really isn't a difference in performance, so I don't think I'll need to buy faster RAM later on. Also, my system is starting to show it's age, specially my CPU, and I'd love to have something faster and new, and since I am on a budget, and computer parts are more expensive here, I have to take the AMD route lol.
