[Racing Sim] Looking for a great PC Title - Page 2

F1 2010 was more arcade than DIRT and GRID. Not to mention it is an absolutely terrible game.

Looks like people don't really know what racing sims are, anyway the best you could get to a great racing sim (granted you use a steering wheel) are Live for Speed, Richard Burns Rally<Amazing!, GTR series. Of all those I play LFS the most since there are tweak programs available and you can change whatever you want with the car, plus the physics are pretty darn good.

NFS, Dirt are kiddie games. Luckily here we can return games if we don't like them. I gave Shift 2 a good go but I just couldn't stand it. Little things like once I put into gear and release the clutch you'd expect the gear to engage right? Not in Shift 2, apparently there's a delay between the clutch pedal and hydraulic pump. Don't ask me what world they live in. lol

Not to sound like a dick or anything, but it looks like all you did was read the thread title, and the others' responses. While the title says Sim, if you read the OP's first post, he describes what he's looking for, and in this case that IS Shift 2.

No it's not a sim, but no real sim on the market has everything the OP is looking for. From what I've researched on the games you list, each one is quite niche market-y. He wants lots of "mainstream"-ish cars, tons of upgrading and tuning, lots of real-world tracks, etc etc. While the games you've listed are indeed excellent games, none of them would fill all of the OP's needs, especially when he's looking for something that's Gran Turismo-esque

Wow, no one really knows there butthole from there mouth, do you guys.... He asked for a RACING SIM, not ARCADE Racing game.

GRID, DIRT 3, and that F1 2010 are all Arcade games, nothing SIM about them at all. They might be labeled as driving SIM's, but they are not.

Anything in the GTR Series is a real Racing SIM type game. As for Shift 2, I myself haven't played it yet so I can not comment on it.
Theres none of this game on PC

Srsly you are better off buying a 360 core edition and just using it for forza 4 (i do this :/)

Or wait till windows 8 ?

They need to bring Sega GT back, Man that game was win

GTR Evolution would be great , I have all the Series and love them. Have a good Wheel G25/27/Other and it would be good fun.

Heaps of tweaks you can do to get the extra tenth on the track. GTR2 racing at Spa in the Dark was the best. Doing tight corners only seeing 40m infront of you while being infront of 10 AI cars leading them.

LOTS of Mods, check out nogripracing.com for Tracks/Cars/Skins.

Shift 2 is decent but More arcadish than Sim.

The lack of Forza/GT type games on PC sucks... I know there's games like iRacing and such, but that's not what I want.

I mean hell, in Shift 2 I've got an Audi RS4 with the engine from an R8 swapped into it and highly tuned for standing-mile drags and it hits 307mph lol. I love the game though. It's got tons of great tracks in it as well.
Shift 2 for when your in the mood for tweaking (im level 20 ) and tuning, but LFS and its chums are good for hardcore stuff.

That's to simulate clutch bite. If you actually drove, you'd understand about clutch biting points, but obviously you can't easily recreate a biting point unless you have a £1,000 wheel set-up.

GTR is a good series, although nigh on impossible

Thread Starter
Thanks for all the replies, even arcade-y ones. I am not interested in F1, though.

First up Shift 2 is doing all right so far, its not ever to be confused with GT5, however, there is some customization in it, the cars handle very unique, and infact once it got patched up, apparently the steering delay was not supposed to be there haha! The game runs well, looks great, but definitely feels geared towards the youth, especially with live video patting me on the back like a good parent...? One thing I loved about GT5 was huge selection of cars and enough tuning to satisfy, but in Shift 2 I didn't like that after my first set of upgrades, I could no longer race in the same P category. I now have to start over as it appears I have a car too powerful for any tracks I have unlocked.

I did end up getting Grid 3 (another arcade), its downloading now... but I am looking up this GTR Evolution.

It appears to be an expansion to Race 07? I don't mind it being a little older, 07/08 isn't that bad, but can anyone comment on this Race 07? It looks like is 10 or so expansions on STEAM, and if its able to tune them etc, or is it just an arcade style game?

Looks like I am going to have to invest in a wheel!!!
