Decided to go with Silver Arrow but what fans?

post #1 of 13
Thread Starter
I have this Thermaltake blue LED 120mm 2000rpm fan. That looks like this.

I've decided to order the Silver Arrow but should I just use stock fans and keep this LED fan for the back of the case? What arrangement should I use for the fans I get for the Silver Arrow and which fans should I get?

Also if there are some cheap but good quality LED fans out there that I can get, that would be nice (blue LED to match my current blue LED)

Also, I currently have some AC5 on my CPU, when I put this fan on, should I remove all of the AC5 and reapply the TIM that comes with it? Is it better than AC5? If not, should I still reapply more?

Thank you so much.

Stick with the stock TY-140's on the SA. They're excellent 140mm fans and fairly quiet.

But how would I arrange the fans? All so, is this allot better than a stock cooler?

RTM.

Fans come with clips to attach to the heatsink, as to where you want to stick your fans is up to you. I prefer a fan in the center, and one just above the ram slots, but they can be oriented to other positions. And the SA is the arguably the best air cooler there is.

The Silver Arrow is far better than the stock cooler you currently have. You should just use the 2 fans that come with it. When you remove the stock cooler, use some isopropyl alcohol and a lint free cloth to remove the TIM and apply new TIM once the CPU is cleaned.

As for applying tim use a grain of rice. Put in center of chip an place heatsink on it and Bolt down while not removing heat-sink. If u spread the tim, air pockets form an raise heat. It ez not to mess u but if you go wipe off do again.

Grain of rice is best. or a small glob in center. but let the heatink spread it. to little tim is better then to much.

CFIII that comes with the SA is much better than AS5.

RTM = read the manual.

http://thermalright.com/products/ind...at_id=27&id=96 go to the Support Tab and download/view the AM2 install(in case you ask, sockets AM2, AM2+, AM3, AM3+ are all the same for installing coolers).

The CF3 thermal paste that comes with the Silver Arrow is very good. Upper tier. No need to buy another paste.
