Need some help

Thread Starter
So I shipped a computer I built for my friend from California to Florida. He received it and booted it up and got some major artifacting. He was able to boot up into windows though. We also had him restart and after an update he black screened. Also had him try to reinstall windows as well but he would black screen there too. We thought it was the GPU and tried a bunch of different things such as different monitor, different PCI-E lane, securing the card ,etc. No luck, so he sent the card back to me and it turns out to work perfectly fine, no artifacting whatsoever. So we ruled that out and now we think it might be either the motherboard, or a loose connection somewhere. We had him check all the sata cables and sata power and everything is fine from what he said. So this has me thinking that the motherboard is damaged somewhere (thanks UPS) but I can't pin point it directly. Anyone else have any other thoughts on what this could be? I'll post the specs of the rig down below.

Could possibly be something simple as a grounding issue. Have you had him remove all the other cables and plug them back in firmly. As when something gets shipped it tends to get bounced around.

No I have not. Usually when I get grounding issues it shorts out and doesn't even boot up. It's possible for this to happen with a grounding issue though?

Not sure how tech-savvy he is {since you built if for him}. But you could have him remove the board from the pc case and try it outside the case to see if it is a ground issue.

Black screens are tough. Does the POST work? Any beep codes?

Does he have another gpu to try? As that would make it a lot simpler that way. As does another gpu work in the same pci-express slot. Has he taken the ram out and used one stick and then added them all back after that one boot. Sometimes just reseating everything fixes it.

He doesn't have another gpu to try things out :/ I totally forgot to have him do boot with 1 stick too. Ugh.

Wished he had a gpu as that would greatly help. With no gpu to work with, it will be hard to do anything now.

As suggested... Try to remove the ram, See if POST beeps mem errors. Plus you should always get the single 'all's well' single beep from the POST speaker.
