AHCI or RAID - Windows 7 AMD Gigabyte ma-77-t ud3

I've just put an ssd in this machine and also have a raid array set up, the SSD is stand alone but people are saying that i would have been best of opting for AHCI, now I've installed windows 7 I've been reading that maybe i should have set it up in the bios before installing, this way windows 7 will install the correct drivers etc. and i won't have to mess with regedit etc

The SSD is stand alone but I'm not getting max and have been advised to see if the mother board uses "trim" or there's a driver out for it.

If i set up my computer as AHCI and then install windows will it still find my disk array as I'm not realty sure what "AHCI" does...i can see, rather than it listing me disks in an array when i have AHCI disabled, i see them all listed individually from each other when i have it enabled.

I'vce tried changing to it from riad but just get the BSD (it's becuase it aint installed in windows according to the net and the work around)

here's my raid array at present.

Disk DriveAMD 2+0 Stripe/RAID0 SCSI Disk Device (1862 GB)

Disk DriveM4-CT064M4SSD2 SCSI Disk Device (59 GB) SSD

you BSD because you can only change IDE, AHCI or Raid before you install windows 7 or you change some settings in the windows.

for an SSD its best you just use AHCI because with raid you lose trim or something

and for an additional speed boost of the SSD install windows 7 with AHCI then once done change it to IDE i heard you get a lil speed boost

Changed in the bios to AHCI and then re-installed windows and what an amazing piece of kit that crucial 64 gig SSD is....it's super super fast.! along with having it set up now - i had to take a loss with the bios raid and leave that as AHCI meaning that i have to now use the software for mirroring and striping, which isn't the end of the world as the speed matters the most! can boot up after dos in about 11 seconds and shut down in 3, there brillaint they are!
