laptop random black screen

Hey... I've got a 3 year old HP laptop...

it currently runs windows 7 64 bit, but the problem is the same in both that, and vista home premium 32bit.

its a HP HDX EO9350 (or 9350EO?) ... a big 20" dude!

Intel Core 2 Duo 2.1 Ghz
3GB DDR2 Ram
500 GB Harddrive
nvidia 9800m GTS

The problem is, it goes blank. the whole screen, at random times. the pc seems to stop responding to anything except shutting it down on the power button. in windows. a reboot solves it untill it happens again. But it can happen after 20 minutes of use, or 3 hours.

I dont know what could cause this but its just really annoying. Reformat and installing newest nvidia drivers havn't helped. So i'm completely lost on what to do..

My gf got some cola into the keyboard of the laptop 2½ years ago and since then its been more or less completely replaced in parts (in fact its been repaired for more than it costs as new - lol)
replaced parts are:

motherboard
keyboard
case (?)
topcover - whatever that is
bios update
heatsink + fan replaced
sound and tv board replaced

so basically everything but thr gpu and the monitor (and memory and hdd)

if anyone got some suggestions feel free !

any help is greatly appreciated

(also i've searched but couldn't find similar posts on either google or here)

Can you kinda barely see what was on the screen if light hits it just the right way? If so, it could be the LCD inverter or backlight.

Will an external monitor work when the laptop's LCD goes black, or is all display output lost? If an external monitor does not work, it could be a more serious issue - something may be wrong with the graphics card.
