I have a computer i sold to a friend (running win 7) but before i give it to him, i want to wipe all the files off it, video card drivers (as i am putting in a new GPU), all of it, just want to retain the OS. Is there a method to do this? Thanks, and +rep to useful input.

If all you want is the OS, wouldn't it be easier to just reinstall?

Is this a machine from dell or something or a pc you built? If you built the computer and as long as you are installing the same version of the OS as in win 7 pro to win 7 pro the old key will work. If this is a computer with a preinstaled OS the key might not work on a oem copy of windows.

I built it, originally with vista, then used an upgrade CD to make it a win 7 machine. Where can i find the win 7 cd key?

You can use this app to find the key.

The only way I know is with a key finder

once you've used the key finder you can just grab an uncracked torrent of the same version and burn it to disk
