GTA4 FPS drop - Page 3

Terribly optimized I loved playing it, but for some reason, I can't get it to run smoothly at any setting for me.

And i have already updated it/patched it to the latest version. That says 1.0.7 or something like that.
I have also tried many other things...but to no avail. As of now i am completely clueless.

And my rig is wayyy better than that recommended by R*

I simply fail to understand why is it that i cannot run it maxed out. Is the game buggy or just that its suffering from severe "consolitis" and so terribly optimized for pc?
u got it right ,this game is terribly optimized for pc's...
well here's my benchmark result...(i know benchmark ain't accurate)
notice that my hyperthreading is off and my turbo is also off...and my cpu is clocked at 2.66ghz right now(don't ask why cooling problems ...)

so here it is:
Statistics
Average FPS: 64.79
Duration: 37.43 sec
CPU Usage: 63%
System memory usage: 74%
Video memory usage: 92%

Graphics Settings
Video Mode: 1366 x 768 (60 Hz)
Texture Quality: High
Shadow Quality: High
Reflection Resolution: High
Water Quality: High
Texture Filter Quality: Anisotropic x4
Night Shadows: High
View Distance: 25
Detail Distance: 31

Hardware
Microsoft Windows 7 Ultimate

Video Adapter: NVIDIA GeForce GTX 460
Video Driver version: 275.33
Audio Adapter: Speakers (Realtek High Definition Audio)
Intel(R) Core(TM) i7 CPU 870 @ 2.93GHz

so as u see due to my clock speed being lower i get approx 64-65 fps against ur 66fps....
its bcoz this game uses cpu power and as my cpu was clocked at 2.66 without turbo..
and urs was at 2.8 with turbo hence the fps difference....

but one more difference ur night shadows were off and mine is on high....
let me do another bench with night shadows off....

now heres the benchmark exactly with ur settings with night shadows off

Statistics
Average FPS: 64.91
Duration: 37.35 sec
CPU Usage: 62%
System memory usage: 71%
Video memory usage: 91%

Graphics Settings
Video Mode: 1366 x 768 (60 Hz)
Texture Quality: High
Shadow Quality: High
Reflection Resolution: High
Water Quality: High
Texture Filter Quality: Anisotropic x4
Night Shadows: Off
View Distance: 25
Detail Distance: 31

Hardware
Microsoft Windows 7 Ultimate

Video Adapter: NVIDIA GeForce GTX 460
Video Driver version: 275.33
Audio Adapter: Speakers (Realtek High Definition Audio)
Intel(R) Core(TM) i7 CPU 870 @ 2.93GHz

now this proves how incompetent the inbuilt benchmark is theres almost no difference in fps with night shadows on or off....this is bcoz in the benchmark night shadows r off by default and so r many other options....

but still these benchmarks prove that there's nothing wrong with ur pc...its just the crappy game......and the guy saying he ran with solid 60 fps is 1000% lying...

either his settings were too low or his rig was insanely oce'd..........

Hmmm, indeed he is oc'ing. There is no other way he could have done that.
