Trying out the Phenom 955, suggestions on what else to tweak? - Page 2

So far i've put everything back at stock mostly. Just to see how high i need to push vcore to get the cpu stable.

Vcore as of now is at 1.425
Dram Volts: 1.65

As for load line calibration i have it set to regular, basically off, not much if all any voltage increase during load, but ill disable it if it helps my chances. It is a really nice function to be able to set the Load Line Calibration though, rather than just enabling it or disabling.

Update

At 1.425 it passed windows experience. Weird thing is i was checking CPU-Z and noticed my memory is in single channel? And is reading Slots 1&3 when it's placed in the last two which i would guess would be 3&4.

When that happens in means your memory is being limited by the IMC on your CPU, and going higher will make it unstable.

Keep your RAM at 1600 (or the highest fsb/clock that still runs dual channel) and make the NB higher.

Had the them in the wrong slots I had them in 3rd and 4th to keep them farthest away from the CPU heatsink. Switched the 3rd to the second and now they're in DC. Finished windows Experience with vcore at 1.425. I had memory running at 1600mhz with 7-10-8-27/2T. On auto it's at 1333mhz 9-9-9-24/1T.
So now that i'm making progress on CPU stability, whats a good bar to shoot for with the CPU/NB frequency? I've gotten 2400 with 1.25v.

NB freq: 2000mhz
HT link: 2000mhz

I tried alot, seems i hit a wall when trying to up memory frequency or CPU/NB. I even set everything back to stock, but set the Ram at 1600mhz with timings on auto, and it still failed windows experience, windows explorer has started crashing and restarting also. Maybe i pushed to hard early on and have corrupted something. I had the NB frequency at 2400 with 1.31v, vcore at 1.4325, and Ram all on auto, couldn't pass WE. It's rather weird. I had BSOD with NB @ 2400 on 1.25v. IDK why.

With an ASUS motherboard, usually I have noticed that leaving RAM on auto leads to bad things. Trying the timings at manually set to the stock but the CR to 2T while at 1600Mhz may be a good place start with for the RAM. While for the NB and HT, see if manually setting those to 2000 will help pass at least to start with

See it did pass WE with Cpu @ 4.0 on 1.425v everything on auto/stock Memory was on auto at 1333mhz 9-9-9-24/1T, HT link @ 2000mhz, NB @ 2000mhz. I've tried to run DDR31600 7-10-8-27/2T.

Just passed WE with everything set back to stock. Strange thing is it's still reading a rating of 7.5 as opposed to the original 7.3 it gave me at stock for CPU.

Also can't set them to DDR32000, I've been told the IMC can only handle 1600. Also board is supposedly capped at 1600 until bulldozer comes out. States somewhere in the manual that it's capped at 1600 or something of the sort.

Usually the Deneb processors will only perform the best with the RAM between 1333 and 1600. That's why I have mine under 1600. Actually runs overall faster than with a higher frequency. 1600 can be achieved but will require a bit more precise "FSB" setting. Since the WEI passed, increasing the "FSB" to a point where you may keep the RAM under 1600 and the NB to about 2400, HT 2000 or a little lower or higher might be a starting point.

Keeping the multiplier to a point where the CPU is 3.6-3.9Ghz also might be a good place to start at to try to reach 4Ghz..

Blackops 2, what cooler are you running? You think the temperature is affecting you?
Thread Starter
I had a friend tell me Temp was too high, and that the phenoms are not like intel. Temps go to high the cpu becomes unstable. That might be it, i'm running a Zalman 9500 but could hook the fan controller up and turn it the right way, rather than vertically to help cool. Temps still aren't bad though IMO anyway. Even at 1.43xx still idle 35. I haven't gotten far enough in stability to actually test load temps at 1.43xx+. At 1.400-1.425 load temps were around 55C which is great to me. My E8400 i had granted it's intel was at 59C during load and if stressing for hours on end would reach 60
