Runescape: What would make it more appealing

I know a lot of people in these forums see runescape as a childish, lackluster pc-freebie filled with noobs and 8-12 year olds (probably because it's all true). But that's not really what my intention is for this post. I logged into my account for the first time after years of inactivity and quickly realized what was screwing up the game.

Here's what I came up with:
  1. The inability to set your own keyboard keys
  2. Using the arrow keys to change the camera angle
  3. Lack of hotkeys
  4. The fact that you have to manually press the on-screen button to enable/disable your character to run

Of these, I think the biggest drawback are the lack of definable hotkeys. The new HD graphics are good enough now, and apparently it even has openGL and dx11 support. If they updated the graphics engine again to something even better, I can only see good things. I'd want to start playing again IF only they allowed keyboard mapping.

I'd love to see keyboard mapping. Also, I read a long time ago from one of the people working on the engine that they'd like to add such things as WASD movement, no more "grid", etc. Any development in this area would be very welcome, im sure.

Seriously, they were considering this? I wonder why it never came through?

Yes, and I don't know.

That's a real shame... I find RS more appealing than most MMO's right now because of the enormous amount of content and updates they bring to the table and the super low fee.
