Quick question on a GPU upgrade - is it worthy ? - Page 4

the ati 5770 is one of the best cards ATI makes actaully. Sapphire tech makes a great 5770 too.

1. I believe the AMD APU + gts 450 would be the same as AMD APU + hd 6770, right ?

2. Will this rig of an (AMD A8 X4 3850 + Radeon 5770 1 GB) give me extreme performance ? (Crossfire I guess >?)

3. @ Aniket

You said my PSU can handle a gts450/hd6750. Is that absolutely correct ?

Because i see atleast 9 out of 10 people stating zebronics make crappy PSU's and with 22 A on its +12v rail.. this 500W psu will not be able to handle mid-high range GPU's.

I'm planning on HD 5770 / 6770 by the way..

@ waffle..

So u mean to say going for the HD 6770 for an additional 20 - 30 USD does not make sense ?

cuz.. here again I see one group of ppl saying its just a re-bagged version of the 5770 but another set of ppl who say.. true HD gaming can only be obtained from the 6770.. and it has got an upgraded version of OpenGL and all that... so quite confused with this too

Only one of these... The A8-3850 is an APU, means that it includes CPU + GPU.

AMD A8 X4 3850 + Radeon 5770 1 GB seems good.

Almost everything I read states that the difference between the 5770 and the 6770 is negligable. I would personally run with the 5770 because it is older, so it is going to have had mroe time to be tested and have the kinks ironed out. Plus, you can crossfire 5770s and get great performance. Most places put the 5770 on par with the gtx 465. It looks like onebig difference is the integration of 3d tech, and the inclusion of hdmi 1.4. But again, I would stay with the 5770 and just save up as much as you can so that maybe in 2012, when the next upgrade of gpus hit, you can get on of those. I was actually gonna xfire two 5770s before i decided to switch to the single 6950.

Yes, my bad.. that was an error..,..

So, a configuration of AMD A8 X4 3850 + Radeon 5770 forms a crossfire automatically? its like having 2 x 1gb 5770's correct ?

That supposed to mean 6770 has more 3d technology into it ?
n btw.., the primary reason why im researching this much is cuz.. this system would not be upgraded again in the near future.. atleast not in 2012 or 2013 !

Correct. the 6770 has more 3d technology and HDMI 1.4. I can't find any information about whether or not the AMD A8 X4 3850 will run with a 5770, but upon further inspection, a llano is actually more expensive than the Phenom II X4s. And at that point, you might as well go with the PIIX4 and get a 5770 or a 5830 (which is actually cheaper).

*EDIT* I also need to correct myself in that the AMD A8 X4 3850 does not xfire, but actually introduces a hybrid type relationship with a discrete graphics card.

Hybrid relationship?
Yeah. It's really goofy. The APU picks and chooses what to process and what to send to the dicrete graphics card. Because it is fusion technology of an already hybrid CPU/GPU, it is hybrid between the CPU/GPU and the discrete graphics card. In this way, it is not actually true xfire, in which the two cards share processing.

Hmm... in this case.. I would remove the APU from my wish list.. its the phenom x4 840 + amd hd 6770

only thing remains undecided is the PSU.. whether spending 55 USD to replace my well working PSU is confusing to me.. especially after the biased opinions here..
