1 more to go to build the rig.. the brand of the GPU for HD 6770..

so much of difference in price comes in depending upon the brand. . why is this ?

Sapphire Radeon HD6770 1GB DDR5- USD 174
Asus Radeon HD6770 1GB DDR5 - USD 196
XFX Radeon HD6770 1GB DDR5 - USD 184

Although I am not a believer of the (more money = more quality) saying.., still such variations strike me ! how am I to decide which brand to go in for ?

How come Sapphire costs 10-20 USD less ? where's the catch ?!

Also, how is this brand "HIS" ? looks cool to me..

Sapphire is arguibly the best AMD gpu maker,go with sapphire, they make exceelent cards,I've owned MSI cards & I love them, stay away from XFX.

I see 3 variants in the Sapphire 6770HD... the normal one, vaporx & flex edition. any idea what these mean ?

n 4 variants in the MSI version !

Vaporx uses small phase change to help cool a system. If i remember right, it's kind of like a very small amount of water is enclosed in the cooler to help coll better.
**Edit** So, the normal is obviously a referance card, with nothing special. The Vapor-X uses small quantities of a collant that when hot "vaporizes" and condenses on the cool surface. There it condenses and is transfered back to the hot surface. Translation: Pretty much a very small liquid type cooling. The FleX, it think, is just a family of products from sapphire tech. Nothing special other than eyefinity, which all new AMD/ATI cards do anyway.

Thanks !... just noticed that the flex has an option for connecting several monitors together.. so I guess the normal one would be fine.

But unable to find the differences between the MSI brand variants.. especially the R6770-PMD1GD5 and R6770-MD1GD5

The main difference is the core clock and the video outputs. One is 800 mhz core and the other is 850 mhz core. Also, one has a display port and the otehr has d-sub

hmm.. guess thats going to be a bit tight on my budget n I may have to settle down with the regular version.. plus my dealer as I said says Sapphire is out of stock even with the distributor ! so im forced to go for an MSI...

Also, a last minute 2nd thought on the Phenom II x4 840 processor. I've learnt that it is just a re-branded athlon II 640 based on the Propus core.
Is there a better deal from the phenom II series with a deneb/zosma core priced around 120 USD ?

Which is better by the way - the native deneb or the 2 core disabled zosma?

Looks like I can get the Phenom II x4 955 black edition @ an addition 13 usd .. is that true ?! will the Asus M4A78LT-M/LE (without being a bottleneck in anyway) and Corsair cx430 v2 suffice for this CPU?

I've used asus m4a78lt-m-le in my maternal uncles setup paired with kingston hyperX ram & trust me it runs great.
Go with phenomII x4 955 BE,its a great psu,
well don't hesitate going wit msi, because msi is the best non-reference nvidia & amd gpu maker while sapphire is the best reference amd gpu maker, both brands are awsome.
Hope this helps.

Hi Aniket, thanks for the response..
What is the difference bt. reference & non-reference gpu maker by the way ?

And is the cx430 V2 enough for the 955be + 6770 setup ?
PSU calculator http://www.extreme.outervision.com/psucalculator.jsp gave me a minimum of 388w n recommended of 438 watt @ 100% cpu usage..

According to a hardware secrets review, the cx 430v2 could withstand a max load of 517W !

Are there varaints among the 955 be itself ? This particular wiki page shows 3 models of the "Phenom II X4 955", one from a C2 stepping & 2 others from c3 stepping..! The last one consumes less power (only 95w) when compared to the other two (125w)...
Does this mean that I must opt for this C3 stepping model !? (wow.. how much of a research when buildin a pC !)
