Which 2GB 6950?

Have a credit note from RMA and have to put a small amount to get a much better card, Question is which one??!

A: MSI ATI Radeon HD 6950 OC Twin FrozR III Power Edition 2048MB or
B: Sapphire ATI Radeon HD 6950 2048MB

£10 difference but I think ones reference and one isn't I'm not sure. Any opinions would help!

Twin Frozr III is the better card for over clocking as it's non-reference design keeps the GPU cooler. About 25Mhz - 50Mhz better OC anyway. Temps are about 20C lower.

I've owned Sapphire cards for a looong time and I loved them, solid reference cards imo. You may be able to unlock the Sapphire to 6970 still but not the TFIII. Don't know if they started to make the reference cards so they don't unlock anymore however.

So if your thinking about unlocking the Sapphire 6950 to 6970 then Sapphire, if your not or don't feel up to it then go with TFIII.

Can't go wrong with the Twin Frozr III cooler. I almost got that before I went with the GTX570 version.

Any way of finding out if the sapphire is unlockable?? Everything I search is the same old, no proper answer or solid info for this actual model!

Got this in the reviews at aria: Great card by Tom

A really good card for the price. With some technical know-how, can easily be BIOS flashed to a 6970.

Not concrete though....

Ah so the difference is downloading the MSI custom BIOS to unlock. That's cool they provided one.

I read someone else bricking their card in the ATI/AMD section using the unlock BIOS. They most likely didn't use the MSI custom BIOS.

Good find and it shows pretty recent as of May 25th, 2011.

There is a guide here to flash the TFIII in the amd graphics card section. A couple people bought them and have the shaders laser cut out. So beware that all can not unlock.
