[Tom's] iOS developpers sued over update button... - Page 5

I don't know why everyone is getting mad at Apple over a patent that they had approved. Get mad at the patent office that allowed it. Doing nothing but patenting things and suing to make money is one thing, but have a line of products and flushing your cash flow by winning lawsuits and "legally" shutting down competition is a great business strategy. They make a ton of money and want to make more, I can almost guarantee that if you had the greed that most CEOs have you would jump all over the idea of pretty much getting free money. They're getting a return on an investment that cost them the time of filing a patent.

People say it over and over in regards to a myriad of subjects: Don't hate the player, hate the game.

Don't cry about Apple working a system that any company can use, and then do nothing about the patent system, fix the system, don't penalize companies for using it.

This makes me think of so many issues people are too lazy to fix and would rather complain about than do anything about. It's sickening, it really is.

In the United States of America it doesn't matter whether what you're doing is "right" or "wrong," it's simply a question of "is it legal?"

inb4 OHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH MYYYYYYYYYY GOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOODDDDDDDDDDDDD IT'S JUST NOT RIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIGHT!!!!1!1one !11

There are a good number of patents Apple has sued over that this forum thinks are wrong, and in reality they deserve to be compensated. I know almost nobody will agree with this, and that's fine, just don't go around crying about a company doing nothing legally wrong because you don't agree with them.

Too many companies do things that are much worse than Apple, it may seem like a cheap excuse to let them continue doing what they're doing, and it isn't. While it's good to hear constructive opinions be voiced about a company's business practices being despised by the vast MINORITY of people on this forum, the vast MAJORITY of posts have no relevant statements other than "OMG I HATE THEM."

I would love to see people try to come up with a better patent system or propose improvements to it other than "stop being dumb" or "read them better" or "make better judgements." These proposals add no real ideas, just hopeful generalizations that in all reality are incredibly difficult to quantify. Patent law is very complex, and it is incredibly hard to gauge what is and isn't in violation of a patent, and what is or is not a legitimate patentable idea. I've said this in every thread like this, and it seemingly gets ignored every time, but I'll say it again.

People go to college and work YEARS to get into patent law. My best educated guess is that none of us have a real grasp on how difficult it is to maneuver the laws set in place regarding patents. I'm also going to hazard a guess that patents are not "LOL GIVE ME MONEY PLX" cards, but are more than likely used as evidence in court cases regarding IP theft and revenue reimbursement cases.

I'm pretty sure you don't just go through your portfolio of patents and then browse through your app store just searching for people to call and go "LOL U BREAK PATENT, OWE ME 1 BILLION." It probably doesn't work like that, and in most likely cases, would cost a ridiculous amount of money to find infringements that appear to make Apple lose no money. However, if you're losing a lot of revenue to let's say Samsung, and you go into sales data and find a ton of the recent purchases of people migrating from iPhones to Samsung phones are all one particular model. And that model happens to look a lot like an iPhone.

Companies are fast to spot losses of revenue, and most likely do not have a team of people just looking for infringements on patents. That sounds like a massive waste of resources.

Of course I'm betting you'll say they do have this team, and that Apple SUX.

I'm sorry if it appears jumbled, confusing, and lacking a point. There's one there, it's just really hard to explain, and won't make sense unless you possess the ability to make an unbiased assessment of the situation.

P.S.: I love you guys, but it's getting a little ridiculous.

P.P.S: I know I'm ridiculous.

P.P.P.S: No u.

Apple is not even involved in this. Another company is suing developers for using a functionality that they patented a long time ago. This actually has little to do with Apple, and as stated in the article, is also applicable to the Android versions as well.

It only appears jumbled, confusing, and lacking a point because you're addressing things that aren't even in the scope of the article or lawsuit...

lol lotus 1-2-3, reminds me of claris works as well for some reason.

Trust me, I've given up trying to explain to people why it isn't actually Apple, I'm just trying to use any thread that has a front page of Apple bashing to try and stop the rampant misinformation that seems to be seeping out of every thread that has anything to do with Apple. I figure constructive points relating to Apple that are slightly off-topic are better than going around and contributing absolutely nothing in the way of legitimate points. It's the same thing as when the ITC ruled that HTC was infringing. Apple had nothing to do with the decision, all they did was file the complaint and the ITC took it from there, but lo and behold page after page of I HAET U APPLE, U DO NOTHING BUT PATENT TROLL.

I'd rather spread semi-relevant information in threads that tend to get a lot of attention that just sit around and watch people do these kinds of things.

I told you it appeared jumbled, I wasn't attempting to explain that Apple had nothing to do with this, because walls of text grab a lot more attention then one line that says "this has nothing to do with Apple." I urge you to reread it taking this post into consideration, trust me when I tell you I wouldn't write a wall of text that big for no reason. I figured I could try and spread some knowledge into what actually goes on, rather than watching people blindly insult a company over actions that don't even relate to them.

Someone should patent patent forms and sue the patent office.

Eh, I guess when you make up your own title (and even mispell it) you get plenty of reactions from people who didn't even click on the source.

Patent 7620565 seems pretty broad. Definitely way beyond my attention span to fully understand.

Actually walls of text have an adverse reaction on people especially when you end it with "/rant."
