and the reason why anad and hard reviews are wrong?
580 have bad scaling is that simple.6970 have amazing scaling.thats how 2 6970 beat 2 580.now someone tell me how thats impossible to believe....

580s need a fast cpu (aka sb/i7 1st gen @ 4.6~5 ghz) for having great scaling, otherwise they will be limited due to bottlenecking. Even the same hardocp proves this: http://www.hardocp.com/article/2011/...rifire_redux/2

Oh lord, another one of these threads... It honestly doesn't matter. Both offer great performance. You seriously can't go wrong with either. I personally have a 6970 and plan on trifiring to a 6990, but both are great. The statistics and benchmarks only go so far, I highly doubt there's that much of a real world difference. Of course GTX 580's in SLI are going to beat 2 6970's, and if you add another GTX 580 and on the AMD side, add another 6970, then AMD very very slightly wins. Just choose and move on...

Value
The real question you have to ask yourself is are these performance advantages worth $400-$500 more. Is 21.7% less performance worth $400-$500 more money in DA2, is 27.6% more performance in F1 2010 worth $400-$500, is 6% in Metro 2033 worth $400-$500, is 24.3% worth $400-$500 in BC2. You get the idea, in some games that could be worth it, but in games where we are seeing under 10% difference, it doesn't seem worth it to us to spend $400-$500 more on video cards.

so basically 580s are a money pit
thx

For anyone wondering, this is talking about 3x 580s vs 3x 6970s with a highly overlocked cpu

lol DA2, F1, Metro... You must be reading HardOCP... If you didn't know any better (and you probably don't), those games favor AMD cards.

Oddly enough only one of those games was released in 2011.

Stop reading bias review sites like Hardocp that AMD caters their drivers for. AMD was getting stomped in Metro 2033 for over a year until AMD finally got around to fixing their drivers for it.

That is the big difference in "the real world".

Go play The Witcher 2, or Crysis 2... You know relevant games that were released in 2012 that AMD runs like dog stuff on because they haven't had over a year to address their poor driver performance.

The person saying GTX 580 scaling is horrible needs to research more. Some games have seen almost 100%, which is insane. Both sides have excellent scaling. Overall, three 6970's will beat two 580's in most games. But what nobody is considering is the cons. Needs another slot, needs two more power connectors. If your water cooling, it's another block and more resistance to loop flow.

I would personally choose AMD, because I'd love to get back into BOINC.

It's sad to see the same people in every SLI and Crossfire thread pushing their purchase onto every member asking for some honest advice. Either setup would rock your socks, so I'd go with the best deal you can find. I've owned and do own cards from both camps and never have driver issues with either.

At stock the 6970xfire and 580 sli are about the same because the 6970's scale better. However the fermi chips scale a hell of a lot better when you overclock them and are faster clock for clock. I was stuck on a budget so I chose 6950's however if I had the moeny I would take the 580's without hesitation. A 580 at 900 core will beat a 6970 at 1000, given these are the typical overclocks you would expect. Difference i would imagine would be quite noticeable
