Don't hate on my X58 though. Just because I blew cash on that doesn't negate the fact that I have a phenom HTPC or a 775 rig in another room. As I said I'm a fan of performance, and my time to upgrade coincided with the X58 platform rather than SB
Haha, I'm not hating I'm just saying sometimes we all spend a bit more for that little bit more, just little bit more. The only option in most cases for that little bit more, is the 580. Hence the price premium, just like x58 carried because it gave that just little bit more.

Price vs performance debates belong in the sub $300 price range, even probably the sub $200 range. When we start talking about two $350 cards or two $450 cards, there is no point in discussing price vs performance since you've already reached a point where you're spending more than you probably should for the performance you'll be getting back. At that point its all about personal preference, and how the cards perform in the areas you value.

So I've seen a few more personal attacks at urbanshaft, but nobody posting benches with updated drivers to disprove that 6970 CF is a better buy than 580 SLI....tsk tsk...must be fanboys.

Why should we have to provide proof when you made the claim and provided none with it?

There were benches posted a couple pages back with 6970 CF and 580 SLI in them.

We are using the latest ForceWare 275.33 WHQL drivers for the NVIDIA GPU video cards, except for F.E.A.R. 3, which we are using a newer 275.50 Beta driver that was just released.

For the Radeon HD 6970 CFX configuration we are running Catalyst 11.6 WHQL and 11.6 CAP 1.

AMD Catalyst 11.4 Preview

drivers used in test...your turn post reviews 580 winning with new drivers

and with that you just proved that 2x580s>2x6970s in most games

There are quite a few games where even at 1600p, GTX 580's pull ahead. All those tests are a prime example how they trade blows in many games, and further reincorces that the OP could have gone either way for performance.

Don't forget you can find used GTX 580's for just a little more then 6970's, and even GTX 480's could be subsituted.

by Ryan Smith on 4/3/2011 7:00:00 AM - not relevant.

So you posted one sample, gonna need more buddy.

An interesting bit there though was this:

Funny you say "we" while being AMD bias in this thread, yet claim HardOCP isn't bias... Isn't it a bit ironic, don't you think?

Lets look at the tests you used:

Dirt 3 - AMD developed game

Dragon Age 2 - AMD developed game

F1 - AMD developed game

Metro 2033 - Nvidia developed game that everyone knows AMD does well in.

BFBC2 - Decent choice, however the settings you used were pointless. You also failed to mention that in several tests the AMD card dropped well into the teens in min fps, which would be clear as day when gaming as it would feel like it just lagged.

I would say that would be an advantage for Nvidia, wouldn't you? For instance using BFBC2 once again, with the same settings at your high res the GTX 580 got a min of 28 fps, while the 6970 with its lack of oc headroom only managed a meager 17 fps min.. I would say that is advantageous for Nvidia, however it was never discussed.

You also said in CF/SLI, your links were either outdated or single card performance...

/yawn gn.
