Shutting down error - Page 2

Update:

When I turn off my computer there is a response underneath the "The instructions at 0x6cfb542c referenced memory at 0x6e31f760. The memory could not be read. Click ok to terminate program" that says "Waiting for CcSvc Host".

Also, when I come back from sleep mode - the keyboard and windows is unresponsive, though it wakes up, my mouse works, I cannot click on anything and my keyboard dosen't type.

A forced reboot by hard powering down restarts everything fine.

So for now, I've disabled sleep mode from happening and just have my screen saver come on until I'm ready to shut off system for night.

Any ideas? Oh and +1 rep for those who've given me input already. Thanks much appreciated.

Don't forget:

*Check HDD for errors/bad sectors
*Check Windows System Files (In CMD prompt type 'sfc /scannow')
*Check drivers/services, maybe something is off for some reason
*Download Dr. Web Cure It!, an excellent scanner/remover, do an extra scan
*Check the registry for entries that are labeled as CcSvc Host and if the are under any categories such as HKLM\\Software\\Microsoft\\Windows\\Run (or \\RunOnce or \\RunEx) or in other startup/boot areas, (becareful and backup your registry before doing this) see if removing an entry fixes it.
*Check your Event Viewer, do you show similar errors logged there?

That's a lot to check but go through the list, we'll find the culprit!

CcSvc is part of the Norton framework that runs in the background when you're running Norton.

Uninstall Norton and see if the problem goes away. I imagine it will.

It shouldn't be doing that (hanging shutdown) but having said that, I've got little good to say for Norton - even the newer versions.

Eh, see I haven't run Norton in some time and I think we have found a winner here.

Give this a shot to save yourself from my lengthy list!

And I couldn't agree more with you about Norton ~ !

Ok - Shifter hit it almost on the nose! Fixed, it wasn't Norton Internet Security 2011 but the Norton Safety Minder which is the parental control addition for web monitoring.

I have kids in the house all day 14 & 11 - who are on my system without parents in the house and I'd rather them not learn about inappropriate things or see them so I installed a very good program that keeps porn from my system. Not to mention the hacks, viruses, and trojans that come along with it.

I uninstalled it first before going to NIS 2011 and when I had to restart my computer that error response didn't appear at shut down. So I tested it out again by restarting and then trying a complete shut down and again it didn't reappear. Fixed!

So didn't have to uninstall NIS 2011. I used to feel strongly against NIS back in the early 2000 years. It was such bloatware. However the last 3 years have been night and day to the versions of dread we were used to. It's very slim and doesn't tax systems nowadays as it once did.

I was mostly glad I didn't have to buy another security program as I still have 130 days left. Now my problem is what parental control can I use on my computer that won't cause any issues.

Thanks again for everyones help as this problem was solved for me. It's nice to count on the courtesy of others help on OCN and a great site for it.

Have a great night. Almost forgot +1 rep to everyone who assisted. Thanks gentlemen.

While I have no opinion on parental software as I have no children (yet ), I'm glad to read that you've fixed the problem!

+1 to Shifter, no doubt!

Glad you found the culprit.

Back in the day my uncle used to run NetNanny software, but I have no idea about how good or bad most of the modern net-safety programs are, sorry.
