SLI GTX 460 768 or wait to upgrade (Battlefield 3) - Page 2

Ummm don't get the 2nd card? look at my sig lol I was asking myself these questions a couple weeks ago, got a 2nd asus card and ya words can't describe how much more GPU power I have now Games I play fps went up 90%, or with vsync enabled it is LOCKED on 60FPS. Sure the small vram is a problem but I only use 4X AA in games anyways so not a problem at all in my gameplay.

I saw they had a sale where 2gb 460s were going for $120 AR.

I would wait for one of them and buy one. Then sell your 460, and buy another one.

Fair enough. I was thinking about the price drop as well, might be a great time to buy. Only thing is I'd have to factor in a new PSU with SLI:

580: ~$450
2x570 + PSU: ~700

Maybe I'll go all out with 5xx SLI + psu when the price drop comes. Maybe even in Oct the prices will be coming down.

Also not a bad point, still cheaper than a 580 and I don't need a new psu

gtx460 sli even with 768mb will be more than enough for gaming imo.
I don't know how much of an impact it plays with 1920x1080 to 1920x1200 but, I can play games on Maxed out settings (crysis2) with 1920x1080.
I also picked up my gtx460 from overclock.net on for sale/wanted forums for 100 bucks. I mean gtx580 yea will be more futureproof and all but for 100 bucks and similar frames output, i think it's well worth it for gtx 460 sli...

Ya I'd really like to know if its worth it to sell my 768 just to replace it with a 1024.

+1, sell the 768 and get the 1gb or 2gb versions. Also consider the refurbed 465's for $99, some of those unlock to 470's.

However yes SLI 768's would probably be enough though for that res, I got away with them at 2560x1600 for a while (although not maxed of course), but for the price difference I would still recommend at least the 1gb's.

Crysis 2 at max settings I'm very close to 1gb on my 460s. The 768mb versions are the same speed just less VRAM. So getting another 768mb version you wouldnt be able to max out all games even though they are fast enough.

As I aid in an earlier then I am quite pleased with my SLI 1GB GTX 460s at 1080p I assume SLI 768mbs could hold there own for a while still. If the Vram turns into a problem you could just cut the AA down a little. Personally I don't see myself upgrading at all until the supposed GTX 6xx cards come out.

If I were you I would just buy another 768mb because it costs very little and will probably scale very well. However, when they compare SLI 460s to the GTX 580 people are referring to the 1 GB.
