No, that's why I threw in the references to having no problem using it with my AC/Air purifier running nearby. It was a slightly different mic then the zalman, but should be pretty much identical functionally.

From what I've heard of others using the mic, it doesn't pick up background static or anything, but it is still sensitive, and it will pick up others talking in the room, or your television for example. It's not a noise-canceling mic.
As for durability, pretty much any of the serious headphones suggested on these forums should last years and years with proper use. Many of them are light, and so certainly aren't invincible, but will last with care. It's worth a warning though:
The HD555s are wonderful (I use the very similar 595s), but many have problems with the Sennheiser 500 phones cracking at the headband over time. Some say it happens over a couple weeks. Some say it happens over a couple years. Some simply haven't seen it. I've been using my pair for ~2 months and have yet to see any design of this. Nevertheless, purely for durability, I wouldn't recommend the Sennheisers.

As for the Audio Technicas though should have no problem lasting you for as long as you could possibly need them.

As far as durability goes, I'm more concerned about the wire. My Razer Carcharias (which I have on right now and it's pissing me off at the moment due to the sound going in and out, it just started today too, which is why I'm even looking for a new headphone/mic now) has been around for over a year and no scratches or cracks, took care of it too, and the sound started being low/muffled today. It fixes when I move/hold the cord in a certain way so I'm assuming it's the wire inside the braid that's damaged or messed up in some way. Probably from over-time twisting of normal use. Was wondering if all headphones/headsets wires end up like this or do some like the AD700/A700 use better quality wiring?

Headphones will have better wiring on principle, and because they don't need to wire a mic/volume control through the whole thing.

I had to send in my G35 twice in the past two years for the same problem.

The left ear bud keeps falling off from normal wear and tear.

Still waiting to get a new pair back from RMA.

Wiring is one of the most notorious areas where headset companies skimp. The odds that your wiring will crap out are like tripled when you factor in the stupid little volume control most headset put in the middle of their cord, as they tend to have really garbage soldering. Back in the day I used to go through a headset every couple months just because I would occasionally run the cord over with my chair. Headphones are sturdy enough to deal with that as they have muuuch thicker cords.

With that said, you guys have any other mics you wanna recommend other than the Zalman MC-1? Again, no desktop mics please, I need to be able to not have to hold anything up with me when I go lay down to relax and talk on skype or anything that needs to be picked up or held.

I'm asking because I'm about to go ahead and order the Audio Technica ATH-A700, which is the closed version of the AD700.

As some have mentioned, the HD555/595 and AD700s are among the best gaming headphones. I personally use the AD700 with a Zalman clip-on mic, and it gives me no issues and sounds a lot better for me and other people than my old Plantronics headset. But if you insist on getting a headset, look into the PC350/PC360 by Sennheiser. Those are basically HD555s with a built in mic.

Well if you want something a little pricier, maybe this would do it for you

[ame="http://www.amazon.com/Olympus-145045-ME-15-Microphone/dp/B000815CF4"]Amazon.com: Olympus ME-15 Microphone: Electronics[/ame]

I was considering picking one up myself, looks pretty high quality for the price

Honestly though, the zalman looks fine
