Well since your half way there already then I'd say why not go SLI? However, I'm sure your more than good playing games right now. Why not hold off until mid-Feb 2012 for Kepler to hit and it might lower prices. Unless you can afford it now, then go for it.

I plan on adding my second 580 after tax refund time or work bonuses around Feb myself.

Enjoy.

SLI'd 560Tis here...thumbs up!

BFBC2 runs smooth!
It's my first dual-cards setup and I don't regret it one bit.

I had a read through the posts but maybe i missed it... whether you should get SLI depends also on the games/purpose u want it... For example WOW doesnt benefit from SLI. So make sure the games/apps u want to run also take advantage of SLI b4 you go down the SLI route.

Last time I ran SLI was when I had 2 7800GTX's. I was happy with the performance at the time (about 3.5 years ago) as I was able to grab the 2nd 7800GTX for $40 and it enabled me to max every game at the time at my resolution of 1600x1200 (minus Crysis of course).

I personally think SLI/Crossfire in a dual card setup is easily worth it IF the cost isn't a problem.

I haven't had a chance to run sli, but xfire was just a headache. AMD needs to work on their drivers, as the performance increase only shined in a few games, but even then there were glitches, such as flickering in BFBC2.

EDIT: I forgot I was in the nvidia forum.

Depends on the situation your asking.

If its 2 GPU's vs Single more powerful GPU I would always take the single..

IE 2 480's SLI vs 1 580...

But if its 1 or 2 of the same GPU then 2 GPU's in SLI is better...

Any time I have upgraded from a dual setup to a single more powerful card I was happy.
Went from two 8800GT's to a 285GTX, performance was almost equal, but the single card was much smoother.
Same when I went from a 295GTX to my 470, performance wise it was nearly the same, but the single card felt much smoother in games...

I just picked up a 2nd 580 and saw my frame rates in WoW increase by 65, so I think you may be mistaken. Though I do have a dual monitor set up, so that may have something to do with it.
