Will this work? I need something to type notes on in class.

I am looking for something to check emails, type notes in class, and be extremely portable when I'm away from my desktop.

I came across these "deals":

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16834220886
I think I could deal with the tiny keyboard...but the extremely slow nature of the atom + 1gb ram would suck

meh

I only have about $300 to spend on this...but I figured that would be enough for what I need.

that would work for you, and if you aren't doing anythign but web and word stuff then it will be fast enough. But I would look for something a little bigger.
here is one with a bigger screen and a little better specs.

i edited my post with a link for a decent laptop with similar specs but with a full keyboard.

this would also be another option.

yes they do, and they are suppose to be pretty good.

I just updated my last post with a lenovo that I would personally get if I were going for what you want.

That lenozo looks nice! I'm still eyeing that msi though. Thanks for all the input thrash!

I really wanna try and stay under or right at $300.

the only reason I put the X series one up is incase you wanted to spend a little extra. I will say this. The lenovo think pads are some of the best built laptops on the market. I have an X200 Tablet, and the thing is rock solid. I have dropped it many times and it doesn't even phase it. I have also had it for close to 2 years now, and the thing looks brand new.
I would highly recommend that laptop if you are willing to save and spend a little extra.

The only reason I'm trying to stick to the price range is because my dad said he would buy me something cheap to type notes on and crap when I'm away from my desktop (I'm moving away for college). I would normally splurge for something "nicer" but I spent all of my funds on my main rig back in November and on my saltwater aquarium.

The lenovo looks nice, the only thing I didn't like was the TrackPoint thingy and the price lol the msi has vista...gross

The only issue with that Lenovo is that it is single core. Many of the Atoms are dual-core now. Not sure how much of a difference it will make in that processor range, but it may be significant.
