PSU buzzes when on UPS battery

Thread Starter
I have an APC Back-UPS XS 1300 and I noticed that when the battery is running, my PSU makes a buzzing noise. This occurs when the computer is idling so I know that it is not drawing too much power. I have found out that this can happen if the UPS does not output a true sine wave. I am wondering if this can cause any damage to my PSU.

I Would be more worried about your system as a whole. Try not to run on battery itself. The battery may not have sufficient Voltage to power the PSU correctly

That's normal. A UPS doesn't make a perfect sine wave when on batteries.

You end up with a wave like this...

So it's close, but not perfect. This leaves a lot of work for your capaciators to clean up. So they get a little cranky.

Get a higher quality ups like from the apc smartups series.

It always amazes me how people spend a decent amount of money on their rigs then cheap out on a ups if they even have a ups at all...

I only use this ups to ride through any power flickers or to properly shut down my computer during an outage. This ups is the best that I can afford now since the good quality ones can be pretty pricey. I just don't want to cause any damage from this.
