Alienware M11x R1 Consumer Questions in Gaming and Portability - Page 2

Thank you for the informative reply gooface,

So, the i3 processor it comes with is on the low-end huh? In your opinion, will it play League of Legends and Starcraft 2 perfectly fine or with compromise?

As far as playing newer games, I won't expect this thing to do so in the future. Guess I'm looking for a sub-par gaming laptop in a netbook form. Not going to expect miracles from this machine, but rather play LoL and SC2 ect (games from several years ago) perfectly fine and have the ability to deliver good battery life when not gaming all in a netbook form.

Makes sense that Supreme Commander doesn't work well, that game lags my quad on my desktop. Crazy!

Still worth $700 to you?

Ok, cool cool.

I won't mind switching it manually to save my ass several hundred dollars. lol

And when you say "limited to dell drivers" all you have to do is update the hybrid drivers, correct?

the i3 is a R2 unit, just for clarification, so no need for special drivers.

someone from there said this about the i3 unit:
Quote:
I bought, one. I can't compare it with others performance-wise, but its run really well for me. I don't run the most demanding games though. League of Legends, Starcraft 2, Team Fortress 2, and Supreme Commander 2 mostly. I've gotten it overclocked to 1719Mhz according to CPU-Z with setpll. This is without much testing, I could probably get it higher by raising voltage or something, but I don't really need it higher.

I'd say go for the better one, if you can, unless you don't need the power. If you get the cheaper one, you'll always wish you had that extra power. However I'm glad with my purchase. This is going to be my college laptop. Battery, and price were higher priorities than games. I already have a desktop for games, and I couldn't justify 1000$ (I barely could justify 700$) on a gaming laptop for college when I could've gotten a cheaper one and gamed on my desktop.
read that thread about it, and someone overclocked one there to 1.7ghz. I learned all I know about the M11x from that forum.

but check delloutlet for the best deals, you probably can get one for less there.

well this fix that they did fixed the problem for many users, no reports of the new design failing on the forum that I visit daily about this laptop, and mine is doing just great as well.(been over 3 months strong so far, and no signs of failure)

I cant say it was the only thing that would happen but at least 75% of the m11's that i have repaired the bar snapped the others were loose hinges causing that screen to bow outwards... so they fix the one... but I still am not convinced they reinforced those bars
