Popular PSU Chirping Noise -_-

Thread Starter
Hello everyone, Im new to the forums and was hoping to get some help with this chriping noise. It started a while back. I recently moved to a new house and hadn't heard it since. Opened up some Assassins Creed 2 (Don't comment about me playing the pc version tongue.gif) After I had played for a while I got into a large scale fight and my power supply had a major chirp attack. Sounded like I had a birds nest in my computer. After that I shut down my computer and rebooted it. Now I just here chirping off and on, even when just staring at the desktop. Seems weird to me that it would just start back up again after being gone for 2 months or so. Please help, I'm not concerned as my computer works perfectly fine, even when it made the chirping in the past. It's just annoying to be having a battle and then here "Chirp chirp :3".

What is the power supply? Brand and model #.

Chirping is usually capacitors failing, and they only usually cook off all at once like that when very, very cheap capacitors are put in a very, very hot environment (see 2005 Antec PSUs with Fuhjyyu capacitors).

Hmmm. A Corsair should not be experiencing capacitor failure like that.

Are you sure it's a chirp sound? And not more of a whine that's cutting in and out?

I wish I had good recordings of these different sounds.

I have the same problem with mine...same model as you, mine has been doing that for months now

come to think of it, maybe it was my graphics card making that sound...guess i'll know once I buy my new one

I also have the same PSU as you two and on idle I get slight chirping every once in a while on idle and during gaming load I get buzzing.

Very disappointed in the HX-850 after hearing so many good things about it.

It also cap whines on idle ever so subtly.

I don't think it's the GPU as one of these 580s was in the same system with an HX-750 and it never made a peep.

I honestly here it as a very high pitched "chirp". It sometimes is a series of "chirps" and sometimes I just here a single "chirp" and thats it.

I'd prefer not to go down the RMA route yet until I try any suggestions to fix this.

RMA?

Mine's been doing it since day one.

Literally the first thing I noticed after turning the system on. No load either.

It's also switched off on at least one occasion running a benchmark with more than stable OC's on both CPU and GPU.
