The class stories alone make it worth more than the current MMOs on the market or at least in my opinion
Thats the only reason I never liked World of Warcraft. As much of the lore that goes into that game, the coherence of the story is extremely lame in my opinion and most of it is backstory compared to the useless quests you're forced to do. As opposed to Final Fantasy XI where missions revolve around a heavily detailed story that plays out with progress.

Big games don't need big specs *cough* minecraft *cough*. I look at games with enormous specs as dick rattling, a virtual one-up-manship of who has the biggest pocketbook to afford the best hardware.

Especially MMOs. When you want to have as many people playing it as possible, a lot of those people will have low end computers and even laptops. Just like someone a page or two back said they can play it on their old Macbook. That is exactly what they want, that if someone wants to play it, they can just pick it up and throw it in their current average best-buy machine or from a few years back even.

Making a MASSIVELY MULTIPLAYER ONLINE game that takes so much hardware power than only 5% of the people that want to play it would be shooting themselves in the foot just so that the 5% could flex their epeens.

This game won't have that I'm betting. Also to date no other MMO has ever come close to the crafting system SWG had, ever. No two items where the same in SWG, you had a ton of different parameters for items you made, resource grades of the same types of resources all randomized. You could have a rifle and make the same thing and it could either be better or worse. Making a set of Mando armor was very hard, and there was no guarantee that it would be good. So you could hit pay dirt when you made an amazing weapon or set of armor.

That's not including the MASSIVE work that went into making ships and all custom. Each part could be of a better grade then another same named item, so you could have a badass x-wing or tie-fighter or a mediocre one. You had a choice to just do space, or just do planets, or mix them at will.

That's not even including the community it had. You had people that just buffed and healed people, or people that would just choose to entertain in a bar - and there were hundreds of ways to do it.

Then you had the alpha class Jedi that were living gods. Plus different levels of those said Jedi. A bounty hunter could send probes and droids out over all the worlds to have to track you, then he had to search the massive planets for you, and if those BH's were any good they had a good shot at taking a Jedi down. It was more realistic then any other mmo has ever come close to. This is why SOE made a MASSIVE amount of enemies with the NGE, so much so Sony actually started refunding peoples money back if they had bought the new mustafar expansion.

From what I'm seeing with this new Star Wars game is that it's more of a cartoon looking type game and no where near the depth of SWG was. We shall find out.

With that said you bet your ass I'll be buying up a few collectors editions, because I do believe this could easily be the next "wow" when it comes to CE prices once sold out. WoW's CE goes for thousands, and I have that funny feeling that this massive budget mmo will too.

Right now my feelings are reserved.
I don't mean to be rude, but if you're expecting SWG 2.0, you will be severely disappointed with TOR. It's a themepark game, not sandbox. Bioware has been pretty clear about that. Unfortunately, if themepark is not your preferred type of game, then TOR isn't for you. Every indication is that it won't have the customizability or freedom of SWG, but it trades that for Bioware-style story.

If that's the case, give it a look. Each class story is estimated at about 200 hours and that doesn't include normal questing.

Why does everyone say that? Do you realize what a joke it would be to release a game on New Years Eve? It's a place holder date. The game will be out most likely at the end of October or the beginning November.

12/31/11 is a placeholder

When the release says 12/31, its basically a TBA.
