Is my 64-bit Windows 7 is under-powered??

Thread Starter
I remember reading somewhere, that everything in "Program Files (x86), is run in 32 bit...?

Is this true??

'Cause I have all my games in that (x86) folder. When I install games, they automatically install into that folder, so I never thought much of it. Only like my drivers and such are installed in the regular "Program Files".

Is it true that the regular Program Files are run in 64 bit, and (x86) is 32-bit? Cause I really want to take advantage and use my 64-bit Windows

(Steam is installed in the (x86) folder as well, a bad thing?)

Sorry, I'm a total NOOB when it comes to softwares and such.

Its installed in the x86 folder because they are not native 64 bit programs, this does not mean it is underpowered

This.

To increase compatibility, they added 32bit to 64bit windows 7 so you can run both 32 and 64 bit programs off the OS. If you didn't have the 32-bit libraries then you wouldn't be able to run 32bit programs at all.

Basically think of it is backwards compatibility with 32bit. Which REALLY is nice because a LOT of programs (a good 70+ percent) are not 64bit.

Exactly right

No its not underpowering anything, its just for compatibility issues, its fortuante that windows 7 supports that because if not you wouldnt have any games to play =P even if windows did attempt to run it in 64 bit mode, the game is only written to run as a 32 bit program, so its the game that is limiting itself not windows
