OLD PC Upgrade

Thread Starter
Hello, this is my first post and I might be posting noobish questions so bear with my inadequacies ... here it goes:

I had this LG XPION rig for sometime now, and I think its about time to upgrade it:
http://www.openpinoy.com/shop/step1.php?number=3448 (sorry, can't find a better page)
Its motherboard, after some search is the GA-8I945GMF-RH (rev. 1.x)
http://www.gigabyte.com/products/pro...px?pid=2279#sp
Processor is a Pentium D 945 3.4GHz and RAM=1GB. Currently no graphics card, I'm using only the onboard video

For the questions...

(1) Can the processor still be upgraded (ex: to Core2Duo)? I think they both use the same socket LGA775... the motherboard site says it only supports Pentium4 and PentiumD processors and I was hoping it can be upgraded (after a BIOS update or something)

(2) I'm also planning on adding 3GB more memory (DDR2, 667MHz). From what I've read, memory specs should be the same for this "Dual channel" feature to work. However, I'm not sure if its compatible with my current RAM. How do I know if my current RAM runs at 667Mhz and not other DDR2 speeds like 400Mhz, etc?

(3) As for the graphics card, I was planning to get the 9800GT
http://www.nvidia.com/object/product...9800gt_us.html
Are there compatibility issues between this graphics card and the motherboard?

(4) Finally, my PSU should also be replaced but I am having a hard time looking for another with at least 700W or more with the micro-ATX form factor.

Thank you in advance. Looking forward for your insights

Oh dear that is quite a lot of replacing, especially with old hardware that isn't nearly worth what it will cost you. Anyway, I'm not exactly sure about your processor question so I'll pass.

To find your memory speed you can check with a program such as CPU-Z (free). The 9800GT should work fine with the motherboard. You probably don't need a 700W PSU for that system, I'd imagine 450-500W would do just fine.

I just upgraded my rig and I'm selling my old parts. Shoot me a PM or email me for details.

I see. I'll try CPU-Z.
