New SB problem...

Thread Starter
Just built a Sb computer for my friend last week and i am having so much problem. AHhh

I5-2500k cpu
MSI C43 B3 mobo
corsair 750tx psu
8gb gskill ram
samsung f3 hdd
xfx 6870

Okay now my problem is...
while running 6870 playing starcraft2, the screen would split into 2, 1 half of screen would clear while other half is very fuzzy.
After installing drivers again, the splitting stopped for awhile BUT now the screen would have wavy screens. So my problem could be my graphic card...BUT it runs fine in my 775 c2q system. Well i played few games of sc2 and haven't experienced it YET, but it could be the card at fault

It also could be the faulty pci e slot? the c43 is a budget p67 board and only has 1 slot so i would have to get a new board to test it out.. which is a lot of work

EVERYTHING was new except the 750tx which was reused in the 1155 rig. The psu was running perfectly fine in the 775 system. IF the psu at faulty, what are the possible symptoms?
BSOD? what else?

any other comments/suggestions where my problem could be??

+rep for all help

Since you tested the video card on your other system then it should be fine. But to be sure, I would test it longer, for a whole day just in case. I would still suspect the video card first, so make sure you test it fully.

It could be the video card based on the fact that SC2 is a very CPU limited game and a SB CPU would be able to squeeze more performance out of the video card, making it work harder as well as increasing the likelihood that any faults in the video card would reveal themselves. Just a theory.

i have tested both cards in furmark and it was running fine and temp was okay too so any other way to test it? Like make the splitting screen or wavy lines happen again.

I think your theory is wrong, if the game is cpu dependent, then it wouldn't push the gpu as much. Besides, 6870 is more than enough for sc2 with a SB cpu.

What settings is SC2 being played at?

Use the 6870 in your machine for a few days and try another card in his as well. That would be my suggestion.

sc2 suggested/recommended ultra graphic with extreme texture. Both are highest. But i lowered to high/high and same thing still occurs

IS IT POSSIBLE that the PSU is at fault?

if the psu is defective in any way, what are the symptoms?
