Planning To build a rig...

Thread Starter
I'm planning to build my dad a new rig to replace his crappy hp. I have the 2500k for myself and thought about building another 2500k rig. But, the EVGA B-stock had the X58 micro for $70 and X58 SLI for $120!!!!! So I took a visit to my Microcenter and they had a i7 960 for 230 or something. Should I go for another 2500k or 960?

If you're really worried about budget then definitely go 1366 and grab a board off of the b-stock. For the cpu I would wait for a deal to pop up in the for sale section on the forum. You could find a nice i7 920 or 930 for ~$180 sometimes even cheaper, which is a great deal. Just because it's older technology doesn't mean it's crap, especially if you can find them for low prices.

Just pay the ~$320 at MicroCenter for the 2500k/P8P67 bundle. I'm not sure if they're still advertising it, but it's applied when you add it on their online shopping cart. From there, just confirm that price and pick it up in store.

It really depends on what your dad needs though. You could very well save money with EVGA B-Stock or make an i3 build. I'd probably get a cheap GPU through the B-Stock as well, perhaps a GTX 260 Core 216.
