Multiple Monitor Gaming without Eyefinity

Thread Starter
I recently came into posession of an extra monitor so now I have 3 monitors & I really want to set up multi-monitor/surround gaming. But do I have to use eyefinity? & if i do not need eyefinity for games, how do i set it up?

I have 3 displays but appart from gaming I want to use my computer for normal use(browsing etc) so it will be really annoying if I have eyefinity spanned accross 3 displays. Also my center display is a higher resolution - 1920x1080, while the two side ones are 1680x1050 so I want to keep the slightly higher res on the center monitor (eyefinity require u to have the same hight resolution). So is there any way I can run multimonitor games without eyefinity?

How eyefinity works it takes 3 monitors of the same resolution and puts them into a group, a Single Resolution, Streching everything out.

If you fullscreen a Windows Explorer it will go across all 3 screens.

Only game I think is compatible with higher resolutions without Eyefinity is EVE online but generally no You need Identical resolutions.

It would look completely messed up to have one large resolution and smaller resolutions accenting it, even if the screens were the same size.

All you need for Eyefinity is 3 monitors of the same resolution, and 1 Display port.

Yea I know how eyefinity works & I have already ordered an active dp to dvi converter
& because eyefinity expands everything on all 3 displays it would be horrible for web browsing and just normal computer use & that is the main reason I don't want to use eyefinity. & the higher res on my center monitor would be better for every day activity but eyefinity will make all the monitors have the same height resolution. i wouldn't mind loosing it in games but i would be a bonus to have it there for every day activity.

So only Eve online works without eyefinity? Any other work arounds out there?

Well thats only if you want proper click maximize... I mean you can still just as easily take a window and place it in the appropriate screen.

Yes as I said all 3 monitors need to be the same resolution, that being said your 1080P is going to be turned into a 1680x1050 yes.

Eyefinity is for enthusiasts, its not really designed for adaptation. It works ideally under identical thin bezel monitors, and when you bring this all together its beautiful while gaming. Creates a whole new level of immersion.

After you hook everything up yes you can simply just cancel the group and move them back into an extended setup in about 25 seconds, if you want to browse or something.

You ususally game long enough to justify spending 30 seconds setting up the display settings into Eyefinity to enjoy it no?
