CPU stay ~55 for 24/7... SAFE???

Thread Starter
hi guys... just built myself a home server pc... and probably have it run for 24/7.. the thing is that i'm too damn stingy to put a 120mm fan on the cpu heatsink (forgot what brand)... just trying to save myself a few pennies... anyways.. cpu idles around 55c and low 60c's at full load.. cpu is both undervolted and underclocked.. running at 0.928v idle, and 0.912v full load... this server is mainly for storage so cpu stays pretty calm..

question is that is it ok to leave the cpu at ~55c for 24/7 since it's undervolted??

btw the temp is ~47c with fan... not rly big of a difference..

Well high to mid 40s aren't all that bad. It's undervolted so it's not like you're really stressing the chip. If you told us what chip perhaps, we could give you a better idea.

My suggestion would be to pick up an old H50, most places are trying to cycle them out for the newer models. The H50 has been $39.99 at Best Buy for a while. If you shell out the extra $$ for a mid range CPU cooler, then there is no need for this thread. Good luck!

After second thought, I looked at your sig rig. Why not transfer the H50 to the server build and have a good excuse to get a better cooler for that 2600k!

and by looking at your system, you have a h50. why dont you get another 120mm fan and have a push and pull? way better results!

well.. the point of the thread is just to ask if it's fine for a undervolted chip that rarely loads hard to stay around 55c for 24/7... i can easily install a fan on it and leave it there for 43c-ish just by cranking up the rpm a bit... so no need to purchase a cooler there..

recommended temps are 80 or lower, do you think 55 at load for 24/7 is safe? your choice on this.

the temp is a bit high for that chip at the settings your using but is still perfectly safe for 24/7, anything under 70c is.
