Is there a way to setup F@H in Joli OS?

Thread Starter
Does anyone know if there is a way to run F@H in Joli OS? From what I have heard, its a really fast and lightweight OS and unless there is some sort of underlying coding issue that would prevent the use of F@H then it would make the perfect environment for it. IIRC its an open source OS so that puts it in the same bracket as Linux right? So perhaps there is a way to download and install the Linux version and use it in Joli OS.

If anyone knows any info about this or knows of a place (I.E. a link to a thread about just this) I might find more info on this then please let me know. If this could work then because the OS itself is more lightweight than Windows, OSX, and even Linux distro's, it has the potential to yield quite a bit more PPD than all of the aforementioned Software.

The next question would be, if it will work, how do we get HFM.net to work with it too? I know its asking a lot but I'd love to be able to keep my web reporting and email notifications. Although, I recently had a couple of Hung clients (no I'm not a hooked with well endowed clients) and it didn't notify me of it. I had to get my notifications from Mach1. Because of the challenge between us, he's watching my clients and ppd output very closely... Well not anymore I'd imagine lol.

Thanks in advanced for any and all info you guys can give ne on this. I looked around for the past couple of days and can't find anything on the subject matter. Maybe I'm not using the right search parameters or something. Anyways, hopefully it is possible and after we get all of OC's F@H team setup with it then we can delete this thread to make it our dirty little secret as to why OCN miraculously saw a 30-40% increase in PPD(I wish lol ) overnight lol.

Jolicloud is actually based on ubuntu so i assume the same instructions for ubuntu would work on jolicloud. When i used it on my netbook the 2nd key to the right of the spacebar opened a menu that allowed the terminal to be opened. From there i assume that the folding @ home client could be installed.

If it is based on ubuntu, then there probably wouldn't be much of an improvement.

If you're looking for light weight, do ubuntu and shut off the gui.

The problem you will run into, larry, is that gpu's don't play well with linux. IIRC, you'd have to run the windows client through wine to get it to work. I'm not too sure how much of an improvement you'd end up with...

Well, Joli OS is much much more lightweight than Ubuntu w/ GUI off even. That's why I was wondering.

I've used Joli. I think the Chromium GUI would add more weight than Ubuntu w/o GUI.

Good idea though, I'd give it a try if half my points weren't from GPUs.
