Gigabyte HD 6850 OC Fan control/noise issue. Need advice.

Hi all, long time lurker, great forum!

Currently have an Antec P180 in which the 6850 is a rather noisy but otherwise fine. Will soon be getting a Lian Li PC-V600F which doesn't offer much in terms of keeping things quiet.

So, I want to quieten down the vga...without Windows. I've tried flashing the bios with RBE; fan stays down for a while then ramps up again. This would be the best solution, but alas it wont work after a lot of trying.

Options I see are:
1. Aftermarket cooler (twin turbo perhaps), but I'd prefer not to spend the money; 2. Modify the pwm cable and wire it up to a fan controller. 3. Get a card where I can flash the bios with RBE to control it. Any suggestions on cards would be very welcome.

Thought I'd see what you suggest?

All 6000-series cards are not flashable with RBE since AMD put more restrictions on the BIOS with the 6000-series.

Overclocking with the 6000-series cards if limited to software (MSI Afterburner, Sapphire TRIX)

Thanks for your reply.

I'm pretty miserable about this. Windforce is such a good cooler, but the fan is running at 46% most of the time, which is really loud. Seems like a pretty common sentiment. These guys are having the same trouble http://www.techpowerup.com/forums/showthread.php?t=134546

If only I could bring myself to use windows all the time.

Do you think the windforce fans would be 12V? I'm pretty sure I could splice the cable onto a regular pwm or 3 pin. (goodbye warranty).
