advice on system build

hi,
first post so please bare with me,

havn't been in the pc world for ages, used to be very into it all, but have had kids and work long hours, so dont get a lot of time to play with things.

my old pc died a few weeks ago been using laptops to get stuff done but decided to rebuild a rig,

here's what i bought

cm storm scout case
EZcool tornado 700w psu
AMD Sempron 140 2.7Ghz CPU
Arctic Cooling Freezer 13 CPU Cooler
Biostar N68S3 motherboard
8gb ddr3 1333mhz ram
ATI Radeon HD 4870 X2 Graphics card

so here's my question,
i've been told you can unlock the dormant core of amd 140, but nobody will say for defonate if its stable and if there is any point.

is it worth it?? does any1 have a guide on doing this?? is my MB compatible?

because of the 8gb of ram i'm going to have to use win 7 64bit, i hate win 7, but to use the full 8gb i got no choice right??? cos older 32bit systems only use 3.5gb, and vista is a definite no no..

will the frezzer 13, do enough to keep temps down?

what's the best bios setting with this set up?

sorry about the questions but as i said i've been off the clocking sceen for ages now.....

thanks in advance for any help or suggestions

1. Unfortunately your motherboard is not compatible with core unlocking so you will need to buy another motherboard in order to attempt core unlocking.

2. 64bit windows 7 will be needed if you want to use more than 3.5gb of ram. Unless you are willing to try a 64bit version of linux.

3. A freezer 13 should be adequate in terms of keeping temperatures down.

I would say you would need a more powerful processor if you plan on video editing. A quad core amd should be fine.

cool thanks, took you advice, went and got AMD phenom ii x4 965 black edition,

but now looking at my boards support page, although it states on box and instructions x4 compatible, looks like it only supports up to a 955, can this be right???

http://www.biostar.com.tw/app/en/mb/...t.php?S_ID=506

if it is guessing i'm going to do another rebuild.... grrrrr

been offered ASUS M4A77TD-PRO Motherboard for little over £30 so might grab it, but want to make sure my old board is not compatible first, already spent more then i wanted on set up, missus is killing me...

so far this is wahat i got,

cm storm scout,
ezcool 600watt psu
Biostar n68s3+ M/b
am3 140 or x4 965 if i can use it !!!!
8gb ddr3 1333 with Arctic cooling
WD 250gb SATA
ATI Radeon HD 4870 x2

The Biostar board recommends 95W, of which the 955 is the fastest 95W processor. Most likely the 965 will work, but I would suggest undervolting it and potentially underclocking it to avoid blowing up your motherboard.

ok guys so here is my new rig set up,

ezcool 600watt psu (will be changing this soon)
cm storm scout, with 2 extra CoolerMaster SickleFlow 120mm on side panel
Asus-M4A87TD-USB3-5200MT PRO (i have not over clocked cpu)
AMD x4 965 with Vortex plus 2 cooler
16gb ddr3 1333 with Arctic cooling
WD 250gb SATA
WD 2TB sata
ATI Radeon HD 4870 x2

i have never over clocked a cpu before, but been told this MB makes it very easy, i already have all 4 cores unlocked via express gate, will i see any noticeable difference if i over clock cpu? i only play counter strike source, crysis 1 and 2... oh i use a lg 32" hd tv... as its a big screen will it make life harder for the gpu's on the x2? and the cpu to work harder??

many thnaks

from the system i see currently lol, X4 ? ya, your set for most games, and two 4870's in crossfire mode = good, your board is good too and a 600 powersupply is good as long as its rated " silver " 80% of the 600 is used, correct me if i'm wrong, that will for sure power you perfectly fine, as for your 32 inch, depends on your resolution, I mean, really, they should be fine, generate a lil more heat but eh maybe, like 5-6 fps lower than a smaller screen xD but hey, thats what you have to sacrifice good luck with it

sorry forgot to add its a
AMD Phnom ii x 4 965 black edition..
i only have 1 x HD 4870x2, not 2 separate card's and my psu is a EZCool Tornado 700W Quiet not a 600watt

been offered a
Cooler Master Real Power M1000 Modular Power Supply, how different is this from the silent pro version's?? been lead to believe there not much difference, and as this is from a friend i can get it pretty cheap, maybe £45,

thanks
