best cpu cooler?

Thread Starter
i want to buy a cpu cooler with the best cooling results (of course, no water cooling like h80. hence i'm posting in air cooling section)

is the noctua d14 the best?

what about megahalem or silver arrow or a zalman cooler or others?

i remember seeing a thread with temperature results from several heatsinks (maybe even all of the popular heatsinks). it was basically a cpu heatsink comparison
but i can't find it anymore
anyone know where i can find it?

OR what's the best combination of thermal paste, heatsink, and fans for cpu cooling?

The d14 is currently the best air cooler but is huge so it'll depend if you can fit it if you have tall heatspreaders on your ram.

Noctua do have a few new models out soon though which will be interesting.

Dave.

EDIT: Evga do have their air cooler out which looks good but personally i'd wait until there are more reviews out to really know what it can do compared to the d14.

Thermalright Silver Arrow. You big silly.

To OP, Silver Arrow and NH-D14 are both essentially the best performing heatsinks. Get whichever one you can find cheaper.

^ funny, I bought this cooler years ago when I though the better a cooler looked the better it performed , and then I found this place... a week later it was replaced by a cooler that was 1/3 the cost after buying two 120mm fans (sunbeam core contact freezer) and dropped load temps 17C.
