Have you run chkdsk on your drives?

Also, did you use Windows memtest or the bootable CD version? Use the bootable CD if you haven't. And let it run for a least a couple of passes... http://www.memtest.org/

First I would run chkdsk as paradigm suggests but if that doesn't come up with anything you could try using the Driver Verifier function built into windows by running Verifier.exe. Follow the on screen instructions (I would select all drivers but maybe someone can correct me on this) and then restart your computer.

I have never used it myself but might be useful as you may well have a corrupted driver. Have you installed or updated anything recently?

Thank you both. Yes, it was the bootable version and the test ran for a few hours, no error.

So I try chkdsd now, then Verifier. By the way, I have Acronis Drive Monitor, and it keeps saying (since it was installed) at each start up that there was two high risk incidents, namely "The system failed to flush data to the transaction log. Corruption may occur.". Maybe that means something... Can that be a clue to the solution? Thanks.

I don't like the sound of those Acronis-listed errors, would you give you drive a more thorough health check with the manufacturer utility (if available, it should be on their website) or something like SMARTMonTools...?

Just finished with chkdsk. Took a long-long time. It found nothing at all...

Thanks. Where should I see any files in red? I checked everything in the upper pane and the lower pane, and nothing is red...

Did you use "chkdsk /r" in a commandline? That's the only way to get it to look for bad sectors. And yes, it does take forever.
