Help me decide?

Thread Starter
Alright so I was using a 5870 but because of crazy people buying them up at $275+ on ebay I sold it, I'm going to have around $540 to spend on a GPU setup and I could use some pointers/advice. Here are the possible setups I'm debating on. These are just the setups I thought about I'm open to all setup's/recommendations except AMD, nothing against AMD but I had a lot of driver issues with my 5870 and I'm not wanting to repeat.

#1. GTX 560 Ti's SLI
#2. GTX 570 (another for sli in a couple months)
#3. GTX 580

I use my pc for mostly gaming fps's to be exact. The reolution I use is 1080p and my PSU is a BFG 850watt

So what would you guys recommend?

I'd concur GTX 580 single GPU solution over SLI even though it's less performance.

You can SLI your two 560's now and the road of upgrade stops as soon as you purchase them.

With the 580 you'll be able to max out current games as well anyways. Eventually when gaming catches up you can SLI the 580 instead later down the road.

In the end it boils down to 560's SLI vs 580's SLI and the choice will be obvious having thought this through with some hindsight. 580 SLI will be huge performance boost over 560 SLI and will carry you in gaming for three to four years.

Now if personally you know in about a year you won't be able to afford another GTX 580, then go the 560 SLI now and enjoy.

Either way in all honesty is a great choice. Either way you'll eventually deal with heat temps, SLI bugs, microstutter, etc so those points are moot now. Only with SLI now you'll deal with it now.

The only other option is to 580 now and instead of going with another 580 next year you sell it and get a newer card in it's place. Kepler 20nm fabrication is coming out in February.

Stickiing with a simpler less hassel one GPU card solution is how I've always done it. I was crossfire AMD 6870's for about 25 days before I returned one and sold the other so I could 3D Vision with my current 580. For a brief time I was questioning if switching to 560 SLI set up would be better. I've come to a personal choice for me it wouldn't have been.

GTX 560ti in SLI or one GTX 580?

Good luck and please post back once you've figured out what or which way you go.

I'd def recommend a 580. They OC extremely well and should play most all games at a smooth 60+ frames per second at that resolution.

580, simply so you can SLI it in the future.

If you SLI 4** cards, you'd have to replace 2 of them in the future, how much you get them for also affects this, and should be considered.

Hey, there is another OP that started a thread similar to this one.

GTX 560 Ti SO vs GTX 580 SO

Read through it as it pertains to what your asking in general as well for more repsonses and opinions.
