Wireless Network Cards

Thread Starter
It seems the one I have in my current rig from 4 years ago is dying and crappy. Currently, I am using a USB network card from AT&T to replace it and it's also been pretty crappy, I suppose. Better then the one inside the rig though. Anyways, the problem I am having is that I have not been getting 5 full bars in my connection status like I used to, and in games like Medal of Honor and Battlefield 2, I randomly get disconnected from games. Sometimes it's 5 minutes in, sometimes it's 2 to 2 and a half hours in. It almost never lasts longer than that. Is this simply a problem with my ISP, or could this be fixed with a decent wireless network card? I'll go with either USB or PCIe/PCI, it doesn't matter to me really and I have the M4A79XTD Evo mobo for my next build and plan to do crossfire with a sound card, but will scratch the sound card if I need the slot for the wireless net work card.

If you have a card you'd like to suggest, try to keep it cheap Really, really cheap. Like I'm hoping a decent one that could fix this problem will be $20 to $30. If there is a $10 one out there that can hold a connection and get my 5 bars, that is absolutely fantastic.

Thank you very much for reading! All answers and/or suggestions are extremely appreciated

I don't really need a new modem/router... I have one from AT&T that does both jobs and is operating from another computer anyways. If the problems I am having are being caused by my network card that's all I would like to replace. If it's the ISP... Then I guess I'm SOL. Thanks though.

The item I linked to is a USB network adapter. I've found it is handy to be able to place it high up away from other objects for better signal.

That reception bar only show you all the devices running in the atmosphere not the quality of your connection. How many Pcs do you have on your network?
Have you looked for better drivers?

Oh cool, thanks Krinkle, I'll keep that suggestion in mind then.

I have three computers running off of the same network and modem, but each computer will show a different connection strength at times. For example, sometimes I have 5 bars and my brothers computer only has 3, or visa versa. The main computer that the modem is hooked to how ever, always has 5 bars. Windows updates my drivers automatically for me, I have the latest for the network card that I have.
