My AMD and me

Thread Starter
Recently i put together a cheapish build, with an AMD Phenom II 955 be, using the stock cooling, running at normal 3.2 Ghz

where i live can get rather hot, around 32C during the day

while idle the cpu runs at about 40-42C and under load i've seen it go up to around 57C, this scares me a bit as a first time builder

Sometime soon i am going to get an 80mm case fan to exhaust some of the air as whenever i take off the side panel, the temp drops by about 4-5C

Will just 1 80mm fan solve my problem or do i have to do anything else?
the noise from the stock fan is a tad unbearable also

What case do you use that has 80mm fan ports?

What places can you get products from?

If anything I'd recommend a Hyper 212+ as it's a very cheap and effective cpu cooler but I don't know if it's available in your area. It sounds like you may have ventilation issues.

Hi jared285q,

+1 on the what case
Again +1 on the hyper 212+ it is a well spent 30 or so dollars.
The 955 can get up to 60c without issue but any higer than that ahd you will start having random freezes.
Also you may want to look at 120mm fans as that is pretty much standard and also look at one dor intahe air and one for exhaust. Just an FTI the fan on the cpu foed not move air much around the interior of the case which is what the in/out fan will do.
Have fun, enjoy, and gook luck

a case with the psu on the bottom will help alot (wont build up heat in the top of the case)
120mm intake and exhaust fans can make for very good airflow

212+ is an awesome cooler for the $15-30 range
microcenter has it for $28+tax (most stores are oos)
http://www.microcenter.com/single_pr...uct_id=0315397
or newegg $30+3s/h
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16835103065

80mm fans tend to be noisy and have a shorter life than 120mm fans

I've used the following fans in 3 builds over the past 2 years and found them to be excellent. My case for all 3 builds are Cooler Master Elite 341s that has 4 locations for 120 mm fans and these fans are spec'd at 17 db. I find them to be marvelous and esp. at $15 for 4.

Cooler Master 120mm Silent Case Fan 4-in-1 Value Pack - (R4-S2S-124K-GP)
$14.21

Also, I've got a bud in NJ that is OC the 955BE at 4.14 GHz and doing so with stock cooling!!! He has x3 120mm CM fans and is going to go with the Hyper 212+ to try to go higher.

Hope this might help!
