First place I looked for cases smile.gif I have been looking at the In Win Dragon Slayer, but I feel the chain mail design would be more restrictive that I would like. Also where I got the idea for the Lian Li's, the rest of them look highly restrictive and blocky. I wish Corsair made a micro tower, the 600D is just too large for what I intend to use it for.

Could do this, colors match Need a matching dvd burner though, or a plate.

Though the convo seems to have moved past the laptop, I was going to put my vote behind the laptop. Mostly because if I was going to suggest a laptop, that would have been it. The problem is the 6970m is out and the 6990m is on it's way so things are in limbo... but for what it is, I think a laptop with a desktop HD6850 or HD6870 isn't anything to laugh at.

As for your 3yo laptop, the first DX10 mobile GPUs sucked and the CPUs that came with them sucked too. I spent $2000 on a T7250 and SLI 8600m GT, so I know... but if the CPU was better I probably would still use it occasionally.

Nowdays though, there are many laptops not specifically for gaming that can handle the task part time.

A laptop with the 6970m or 6990m could handle it full time well for a while and even a desktop needs a refresh after 3 years.

Including all rebates and savings I have compiled, the total without a case is $1040, looks like I can get the all black Lian Li PC-V600FX biggrin.gif

Edit for the post above: That is one of my issues with getting a laptop. It seems as soon as you buy one it is instantly out of date, at least desktop computers last a while longer before becoming "old". I had a friend buy a decent Asus G73 laptop only to find out that the G74 released a month and a half later.

Plus what fun is a laptop since you don't get to build it (and barebones are a pain in the bum)

I will try to take more with this build than I did my first. I don't want to try to take a screenshot of the it... everything in the OP is what I am buying except for the microcenter things, getting those in store. The linked text "Price link" was the cheapest I could find (including tax and shipping), if anyone knows anywhere cheaper for the parts please share the info!
Now the next question is should I start a new thread when the time comes or should I just edit and continue this one... This thread does have some good info.

My advice would be to go with an ITX, takes much less space than an Matx, especially in a dorm room, space is at a premium.

An SG05/06 would be ideal, there are some fantastic builds with these cases, some even fitting 6950's and GTX 580's.

I built a SG05 for a friend, they are very small, but can fit everything I threw at it.
Shhh!

Not keeping it at my dorm, keeping it at my house... I had an outline somewhere in this thread saying that, I will move it to the OP for clarification. I also was looking at ITX, but it seems that ITX is geared for HTPC's that get tucked away in a corner. Maybe I will make that my build for my room mate when he has the money to buy parts...

Wasn't blaming Asus, I was blaming technology, especially mobile tech. Look at DDR3 RAM... a year ago I bought my sig rig Dom's for $300, I bet I could find it around $150 if I looked today.
