How does the Samsung 305t compare to todays 30"?

Thread Starter
I've been offered a 305t in a trade, but I'm not sure about how it compares to the U3011 that I originally wanted to purchase. It seems the 305t is an older model, PVA panel.

I've done a little research, and it doesn't seem too bad...but I'm no monitor professional.

All I care about is the monitors performance for gaming, and its color reproduction for gaming.

I found these images for the 305t:

And these for the U3011:

Why does the 305t look more grainy, is that because of the PVA panel compared to the IPS panel of the U3011?

The "best" shot of the 305t looks to be better than the U3011 in terms of ghosting, but the "worst" shot of the 305t seems to look worse than the U3011.

It also looks like the red on the 305t is slightly more, red. Compared to the U3011 it looks slightly more pink.
I'm viewing this currently on my U2211H.

I'm wondering if some of the more experienced monitor guys that I know hang out here, can help me decide if there's a large chance I'll be very satisfied with this monitor for many years to come. Obviously no one can decide anything for me, but I can get a good idea of what to expect from you guys. I also see a large amount of these on eBay that are damaged, that kinda worries me. I'm not sure if it has a warranty still, and if it does it will probably be running out soon. I want to keep the 30" I choose for many builds to come.

In every measurement possible, with the actual (not the advertised) response time being the only possible exception, the U3011 is better.

That picture of the U3011 was probably just taken with it in Wide-Gamut mode when the content is sRGB, no need to worry it's just a setting change. Or it could just be the camera they're using.
