Most "desktop replacements" use full power desktop CPUs, and can eat the MBP for lunch.

Take a look at the Sager NP7282 for example. Fully loaded it's got an i7-990x, x58 chipset, 12GB RAM, a GTX560M, three 2.5" bays with hardware RAID support, and tons of other things that no Macbook has ever come close to.

So you guys don't think Ill notice the performance difference of the CPU from the MBP to the MBA for what I'll use it for?

Amazon, Google (Not Public yet), Apple iCloud, Best Buy? , Spotify(New to U.S.). There are soo many it's too funny. Look around you'll find something. My brother and I got invites to Google Music, mines is screwed up so I cant use it, but his works, and he LOVES it. It's nice when you have a small HDD/SDD cause then you wont waste 20 gigs on music.

Not with just daily use. It's a Sandy so right there it's powerful.

Also 4.2 grand for the base model. That doesn't include what you stated. But since he's taking it college I don't think he want's to carry a 10 pound brick with him...

Why not a wireless harddrive on a home network and then external HDD for on the go

My brother in law is in college right now with the Air. I always had Powerbooks/Mackbook Pros in college, and it was rough on them. You'll want the Air with less movable parts (SSD) and the thinness of putting it in your backpack.

Hey man I'm in the same dilemma as you and I'm heading to the Apple store this weekend with my parents and it'll be my first apple laptop too.

I was at first gonna get the MBP, but when you think about portability + your Books thing is gonna get heavy after awhile.. I'd rather pay $80 and get the superdrive rather than another 4 pounds or so and lower screen res.

Also is the mba backlit?

I never said he should buy it, I just corrected the "best desktop replacement" statement

I have a macbook air 2010. 1.86ghz C2D, 2GB ram. DOes everything I need. The thinness and weight are genuinely useful, I wouldn't trade it for a 13" pro. A 15" pro is a different story, if you need it, but IMO the 13" pro is basically a useless machine.

I know, but I was pointing out that it's retarded how much they are.
