My new build

Hi all,

Not sure if this is the correct forum to post this in, sorry in advance if it is the wrong one!

I just wanted to get opinions on my new build. I just want to make sure that i am not missing anything. I am building this computer to be a high end gaming computer. My main concern is the memory, I couldn't find much information to let me make an informed decision but I want max speed, best you can possibly get, price is not a concern (well don't go too crazy).

Here is my list so far:
  1. Intel Core i7-990X Extreme Edition 3.46GHz LGA 1366 130W Six-Core Desktop Processor
    Item #:N82E16819115079
  2. Intel BOXDX58SO2 ATX Intel Motherboard
    Item #:N82E16813121470
  3. Western Digital VelociRaptor 300GB 3.5" SATA 3.0Gb/s Internal Hard Drive -Bare Drive
    Item #:N82E16822136322
  4. Kingston HyperX T1 Series 6GB (3 x 2GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 2000 (PC3 16000) Desktop Memory
    Item #:N82E16820104178
  5. CORSAIR Professional Series Gold AX1200 (CMPSU-1200AX) 1200W Power Supply
    Item #:N82E16817139014
  6. Intel 510 Series (Elm Crest) SSDSC2MH250A2K5 2.5" MLC Internal Solid State Drive (SSD)
    Item #:N82E16820167043

The solid state drive will be my main drive on the SATA 6GBps connection
the 2 VelociRaptor will be on raid 0 as my bulk storage drives.

I will also be getting 2 EVGA GTX590 classified in SLI for Quad SLI

So does anyone see any compatibility problems or bottlenecks?

If your main concern is gaming.. the 990x is a waste of money.. Its meant for Workstation PC's, not gaming.. If you want a gaming CPU grab the 2500k or 2600k depending if you want HyperThreading or not.. You will get equal if not better performance for alot cheaper.

2500k:

2600k:

I wouldnt waste money on the VelociRaptor, And you can get a better SSD for the money. Something like a Crucial M4 will be better. Then you can get a spinpoint f3 for file

Well question, for anyone... does the RAID work on the 2 SATA III ports also? like can i have a RAID 0 on the 2 SATA III 6gbps ports and then a raid array on the 3gbps ports also? If so, i could get 2 of the M4s and RAID0 them on for my main drive and then w/e for the storage...

I dont know about RAID 0 on the sata 3 ports..

But then i guess it does look like a good build.
You might want to wait until the end of the year for X79 to come out though..
