At 5.1ghz I require 1.472 and my temps with custom watercooling peaks at 70c after 12hours of prime blend, mind you my CPU does not have HT, so now think about what your chip would do? your's at 1.52v and it's got hyperthreading and you have a H70 cooler, you won't stand a chance with a stability tester. If you would like to keep the chip for a longer period of time then you should lower the overclock. Im not saying prime test for hours, lets start off with a couple mintues first lol

Anyways post your settings and we'll have a look at it.

Another note is that trying to get 5Ghz is not going to happen.
I notice people are taking note of my H70. Another reason I'm trying out 5GHz is because of the fact that H100 is out. I've got over usd150 saved up & ready to buy it as soon as it's in stock.

Yes I will never hit 100% on my cpu. However after 2 days of monitoring everything I do, no matter what I will never reach 100%, so I'm not worried about 100% temps.

Thanks for all the concern on my chip. However should the worst possible scenario occur, I do have a 2500k backed up, which I won't mind using if I don't have my 2600k.

Right now I've increased QPI/VTT/VCCIO to 1.15625v
As for RAM, here are the overclocks:
1600 -> 1866
7-8-7-24-T2 -> 8-8-9-24-T2
1.5v -> 1.65v

I read that BSOD 124 could also be linked to RAM. Is that true?

Does a better cooler cause a chip to require less voltages?

Yeah I understand the case here. I do have a 4.8GHz preset should I decide to back down from 5GHz. It's just that I notice the extra boost & it really helps a lot.

What does BSOD 3B mean? I got it yesterday..

Not sure what settings you want but:
PLL overvoltage - Enabled
Spread spectrum - Disabled
Multiplier - 100x50
Vcore - 1.525v
Ram - 1.65v
Qpi/Vtt - 1.15625v
PLL - Auto

I was thinking, is it possible to use BCLK for 100MHz? I heard that it's a good way to overclock. Ie. 4.9GHz, with the remaining 0.1GHz obtained through BCLK.

124 bios is almost always vcore. 99% of the time.
And since you cant even half test for stability we cant really tell you for sure.
Because if it was ram then you could run small fft in prime and that would tell you.

3B is more like a ram problem

*Forgot to add settings. Editing right now.
Yeah, idling on the desktop sure gets a boost from 5GHz

In that case, it's your chip bud, by the way do you game? have tried playing BFBC2?

I would recommend leaving RAM on stock to see if that helps your problem, also are you using offset voltage? Make sure you have all the power saving features on, Try enabling Speedstep, C1E, C3 and C6 Report. If it continues then try running C3 and C6 on Auto and leave the rest on enabled.

All the errors you are getting are more than likely is because your overclock is unstable and without running some form of stability testing it's difficult to tell.

Nope never tried BFBC2. Wanted to but decided to save the cash for BF3 instead. Recently stopped FPS as none of my friends are interested in the current games - We're waiting for BF3. We mainly play Starcraft II & Rift now..

Ram @ stock huh. Well I need new ram.. Will be going down to check stock for Mushkin's Ridgeback.. Which they probably won't have. Do you think I should settle for Corsair's Dominators instead?

I don't use offset. Vcore is manually set @ 1.525v.

Power saving features? Mine are all off. I'll do a reset & change them now. We'll see what happens.

As for testing results.. Only time will tell I guess. My computer takes 6+ hours to crash at these settings.

If you turn the powersaving features on it will downclock the cpu at idle thus making your 5ghz worthless unless you stress the machine enough to trigger the multi and it will jump back to 5ghz.

Why dont you just try for 4.8ghz or 4.5ghz and know for an absolute fact that you cpu is 100% stable?
I mean if you wanna play bf3 you are gonna have to get that cpu stable cause thats a very cpu dependent game.
Also I dont think a h100 will help you much because at the rate your running your chip I give it 2 weeks then you will need 1.52v for 4.8ghz and it will get worse from there.

All the stores told me that H100 will only arrive next month.... So I'm supposed to give up 5GHz?

No way.

Bought a new custom watercooling kit (240mm rad) & memory. Here are the new results:
