Crash on certain games. No error messages

Thread Starter
ok, so this has just started lately and I have been pulling my hair our of my head trying to think of what it is. So here's the problem:

In Borderlands and Grid after about 20-30 minutes I crash. My monitor turns grey/orange and the audio turns to this weird buzzing. The computer generally restarts automatically.

What I have tried:

I ran Prime95 for 4 hours: no errors, no crashes.
I wanted to stress my GPU and I didn't know of a good program to do it so I booted up Crysis and put everything to max (my system lagged so much) and played it for an hour: No errors, no crashes.
I removed ALL of my overclocks: Games still crashed.
I tried running the programs as administrator: didn't help
I disabled the Steam overlay: didn't help
I launched without Steam (found the .exe and launched from there): Still crashed.
Ran Memtest. I got an error but I don't know what it means so i will post it here:
test:4 pass: 2 failing address: 000375853c8-88.5MB good: ec4c81cOF bad: e4c01cOF
I checked Windows Event log and the only thing I can find after my system crashes is a warning about how the kernel wasn't properly shutdown.

My last idea but I don't know how to test: I am running Steam off of it's own hard drive. Is there a way to check to see if something is happening in the connection or if the drive is failing? I tested all the connections by re-plugging them all in.

Please. Any help is good help at this point. I'd rather not do another reformat and this crash is preventing me from enjoying my games.

look in the registry for rclogon and set it to 1. It will enable logging for nvidia miniport driver

I tried using the "find" option in the registry but it would search and then not tell me where anything was located. Do you know where exactly I have to look to find it?

can be activated by setting RmLogonRC registry entry to 1. In this case, after reboot the driver will always add all throttling related events to the system log, so you'll be able to use event viewer and see what exactly causes you system to throttle. So you'll be able to determine the reason causing your system to throttle: hardware error recovered by Robust Channels technique, thermal conditions, stress test failure or lack of auxiliary power.

spell it wrong sorry

Where exactly in the registry is that?

Strange that you got a memtest error.Have you set your ram manually in your bios?

Any failure in memtest should be treated seriously, since that means your RAM is bad or your memory controller doesn't like your RAM. Either means trouble.

Start testing your sticks one at a time until you isolate the bad one. Then pull it, and retry gaming.

If you are finding that multiple sticks are throwing errors, I suggest reverting back to SPD settings and retrying testing. You should expect to have to spend a few hours if not a few days on this, since for some machines 3 or 4 passes can take ~12 hours. (on my Core i5 750 box w/ 8 gigs, for example, 5 passes in memtest86+ did take about that long)

wow, thanks for all the great responses! I tried replacing my ram with someone elses ram. It also crashed in Borderlands. I was wondering. Would having many different versions of visual C++ (both 64 and 32 bit) cause a problem?
