11.04 Install doesn't see main hard drive

So, the Windows 7 machine I was using as my media server lost a motherboard today. Luckily, I have 3 spare complete computers to cannibalize for parts. :0

So, I figured since I was basically assembling a new system and it would need a new OS install, I might as well make it the next in the house to switch off Windows to Ubuntu. I thought the hardest part was going to be setting up the RAID on it. Ironically, that is the only thing working.

So, I boot up the system and go into the install. When I get to the partition table, it ONLY shows my RAID on the add-in LSI MegaRAID 8480E card. I am using a 320GB Seagate SATA as my OS drive (40GB partition for OS, the rest for storage) but it does not list that in the partition table.

Now here's the part that gets good, cause I know everyone is thinking what I did; the hard drive is dead or it's not plugged in. I shut down the system and plugged the hard drive into a different SATA port, rebooted, and same thing.

When I cancel the install and go into the Live CD I go into GParted or the Disk Utility both show the 320GB fine. In fact, I can even go into the COMPUTER and open both partitions and access data on them. I even deleted the 40GB Windows partition with GParted and reformatted it as an ext4 partition, the installer STILL does not list that drive as an option to install to. And yes, I unmounted the 320 partitions before installing.

Has anyone got a clue about what the heck is going on??

No....not at all.

I got it figured out this morning......the RAID had nothing to do with it (its on a PCI card and not bootable).

I had to go into Gparted.....deleate ALL the partitions and create a new partition table. Once I did that it saw the drive and I could install.

Crazy.
